We’ve all been there, you sit down with your next interview candidate. They are dressed nicely, well groomed and even have a firm handshake. But then you begin asking your standard questions and to your surprise, you get rather unexpected answers. Today, we are sharing 10 strange but true answers to common interview questions.

Q: Why are you applying for this position?

A: “My dream is to be an astronomer but since I possess literally zero training in astronomy I am currently looking for work as a procurement officer.”


Q: Tell me about your previous work experience.

A: “Worked with my dad building things. Worked with my mum cleaning the house.”


Q: What’s the size of your current employer?

A: “Very tall. Probably over 6 foot.”


Q: Why do you want to work for this company?

A: “I think your receptionist is cute.”


Q: What makes you qualified for this role?

A: “My twin sister has an accounting degree.”


Q: How would you rate your communication skills?

A: “Written communication: 13 years. Verbal communication: 16 years.”


Q: Why should we hire you or someone else?

A: “I am quick at typing. About 30wpm or 45wpm with strong coffee.”


Q: Why did you leave your last job?

A: “Got terminated after I was overheard saying: It would be a blessing to get fired.”


Q: What are your salary expectations?

A: Current salary: 50,000 Ksh. Salary desired: 200,000 Ksh


Q: Do you have job references?

A: “Yes but please only talk to Susan – definitely not Claire.”
