Talent has become the most powerful and priceless tool that jobseekers require to attract employers. Many recruiters and HR managers complain about the quality of candidates they receive. This, among others, is one of the top challenges HR professionals face today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a candid talk hosted by BrighterMonday dubbed the HR Fireside Chat<\/a>, we brought together HR leaders to discuss this, among other issues the experts in the field face today. The impact of the pandemic on performance management, remote working and mental health and how to manage this <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the fireside chat, Ellina Kabiru<\/a>, Head of HR at Betika.com<\/a>  highlighted the importance of securing top candidates and its impact on business success. \u201cAs a recruiter, I believe in searching for talent and it is practically impossible to review over 2000 CV\u2019s looking for the best candidate.\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ellina added that with the inception of technology, companies like BrighterMonday <\/a>have become imperative and helpful in the search of talent, making it easier for recruiters to shortlist the ideal candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the impact of COVID 19 has affected employees, enhancing the focus on mental health in today\u2019s workforce. Addressing this Joyce Nyakundi, Head of HR at East African GasOil<\/a> Limited noted that Mental health in the workplace deserves more attention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs HR leaders, it is our job to ensure that the working space is conducive for all employees. One way is to bring in mental health experts who play a critical role in ]counseling employees.\u201d said Joyce. She added that this, as well as other initiatives such as equipping line managers with skills to manage employees with care and attention, helps increase their morale and keeps them motivated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One other key issue that came up was managing today\u2019s young workforce, Gen Z. The Gen Z group of workers are different; they have different needs and expectations. How can today\u2019s HR manager navigate their demands and expertly handle this new workforce?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the discussion, Ellina Kabiru noted that they bring versatility to the workplace and they have a great can-do attitude. On the flip side, she challenged this younger generation of employees to be patient as they grow their skills and experience; it takes time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the close of the engagement, BrighterMonday Marketing Manager, Pancy Maina, said adoption of technology at the sourcing stage will help businesses manage a high volume of unfiltered applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
