You don\u2019t have to stand there looking stranded and confused. Find a conversation piece<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are not good at starting conversations, the following conversation starters might work for you;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>What do you think about the speaker?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>This is a great turn out. Is it your first time to (Event name)<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>I see you work at Company X, nice to meet you. My name is Y and I work at company Z<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Mind if I join? How do you all know each other?<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>My name is X, I like the question you asked during the Q&amp;A.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Be_Confident\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3.&nbsp; Be Confident<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Confidence is an attractive quality in a person that draws people in. Work on your confidence via practice. When in a new environment act and walk confidently around people, but be courteous at the same time. Move around and engage different people even if just for a few minutes each.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Find_Some_Common_Ground\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4. Find Some Common Ground<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you meet and talk to people, try and find common ground with the people you are talking to. It could be a role or even someone you know in common. This is an opportunity to talk about topics that are common grounds and further know people in your industry, as well as getting worthy connections.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Move_Around\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5. Move Around<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Don\u2019t stay in one place for too long.&nbsp; You do not want the conversations around you fizzling or drying up. If you must distribute your business cards, save it for the end of a conversation and let it flow smoothly into the conversation. Do Not Hog Conversations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When networking, listening and asking questions works better than just talking about yourself. Show genuine interest in what people have to say. Follow Up<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once the event is over and you have made worthy connections, use the business cards you collected to reach out to specific people you feel you share common interests. However, the more events you attend the more people you meet.&nbsp; Chances are that you are going to meet familiar faces from previous events.
