Job Description

The company's offices are in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania , and Mauritius. As a market leader in the supply of marketing merchandise, the company’s clients are the major brands across Africa. 

This Accountant role, based in Nairobi, will handle the day-to-day accounting of ROCKET's entities in several African countries. It is a position that is perfect for achievers who are ambitious perfectionists wanting to be a part of an exciting rapid growth company.  

Primary Responsibilities

Preparation of accounts 

Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for operational management.Responsibility for all journals and final GL balances including review of month-end balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts.

Payment Processing

Ensure that payments are complete and accurate before processing. Manage the office petty cash; prepare petty cash reconciliation and replenishment requests.

Tax Filing and Compliance

Ensure ROCKET is always compliant with all Revenue Authority and Government Bodies’ Regulations by: 1)Timely filing of statutory payments, (i.e. NSSF, NHIF, GEPF, etc.) and 2) Timely submission of tax returns (i.e. PAYE, WHT, WVAT, VAT and import duty).


Enter all transactions on a daily basis into Xero accounting software to facilitate accurate and reliable reports.Reconcile all ledgers on a monthly basis and ensure that month-end closing procedures are followed and properly documented. Ensure 100% compliance with ROCKET’s internal controls.  

Revenue Accounting

Billing of customers.Collection of customer debts.Reconciliation of customer accounts and disbursement of customer statements on a monthly basis.

Fixed Assets and Inventory

Maintain the fixed assets register.Carry out monthly stock counts.


Perform daily bank reconciliations on Xero.Efficiently manage the company’s banking practices.

Additional Tasks

Support all ROCKET offices on accounting related matters as and when required by the Finance Manager. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Rocket is seeking someone who is self-motivated, relational, and passionate about his/her work. This individual will have good communication skills, an optimistic attitude, a desire to serve others and the focus required to execute the company’s objectives.

In addition, qualified applicants should ideally have the following:

Bachelor’s degree from a credible university in Finance, Accounting or any other business related course.Qualifications as a Certified Public Accountant, preferably CPA Section 6.Work experience with a good track record of up to two years in a busy Accounting Department or Audit Firm that required high-performance and adherence to meeting strict targets and deadlines is favored. Highly capable and competent new graduates are also encouraged to apply.Financial skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Xero are preferred.
