Job Description

InBusiness program is an initiative of Light for the World-an international development agency, that aims at expanding business relationships, enhancing competitiveness and opening market for women, persons with disabilities and youth owned micro-enterprises in Kenya.

The objective of this program is to support sustainable business linkages between formally established and licensed micro-enterprises (MEs) and well established small, medium, large and transnational companies, public and private agencies referred in the program as lead business partners (LBPs)

The InBusiness Program  is recruiting Business Development Service (BDS) providers to work with selected micro- enterprises (MEs) across four counties in Kenya; Nakuru, Kisumu, Kakamega and Uasin Gishu.  We are looking for a BDS with experience in business strategy development and who have a strong marketing background (preferably having worked with Micro-Enterprises). The BDS providers will deliver business development trainings, business modelling, development of marketing strategies and implementation support together with the MEs participating in the InBusiness Program.
Selected BDS providers must be available to attend a 4-day training in July 2018 and deliver their services under a short-term contract between August 2018- February 2019.

We strongly encourage applicants from InBusiness Program areas; Nakuru,Kisumu,Kakamega and Uasin Gishu as they will be deployed in their own counties. Twenty (20) positions are available for application.

You will..

●      Deliver practical, engaging and impactful business trainings, using BoP Innovation Center’s training curriculum as a guide, to the micro enterprises in order to help them grow their business.  Trainings will cover topics such as:     
        - Value proposition development
        - Target market selection
        - Marketing
        - Distribution channels
        - Financial models

●      Help the enterprises to develop practical, actionable plans to better position themselves for new business opportunities within the program

●      Help the enterprises convert insights to viable business cases.

You have.

  • Five (5) years business experience, ideally working with MEs and focused on business development, sales, marketing and/or distribution.
  • Delivered group trainings (ideally in both peri-urban and rural settings).
  • Knowledge of and experience with rural distribution challenges and opportunities at the Base of the Pyramid markets.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Strong desire to make a difference in the lives of MEs
