Tiny Totos Kenya (TTK) is a Kenyan registered company pursuing a scalable and financially self-sustaining model for creating a network of standard-setting, independent preschool daycares in the slums of Nairobi. We work with individual entrepreneurs to upgrade their businesses and ensure that they provide affordable, safe and stimulating daycare services while enjoying growing profits from their business. At Tiny Totos, we start and end our day thinking about how we can make lives better for the women who run our daycares, the women who leave children in our daycares, and most importantly of all, the children who spend their days in our daycares.
After several years of pilot testing our intervention model, Tiny Totos is currently in scale up mode, having secured financing to core operations through to the end of 2021. One of the key goals of our organization is to strengthen and standardize the education content we train our daycare partners to deliver. As our managers rarely have any formal ECD (early childhood development) education, operate in limited environments and lack the resources to invest in education materials or expertise, it is critical that we provide ECD training and support in a cost-effective and practical way, that stands the greatest possible chance of adoption and application in the resource / capacity / space constraints in which we are operating. To do this effectively, and to evaluate through the learning process both whether content is being delivered properly and whether the content is having positive impacts on child learning we require a strong manager to head the ECD team.
We are seeking an individual with balanced experience in the theory and practice of ECD, as well as managerial skills, preferably acquired in the education field. This individual will be supported by the (part time) TTK ECD Expert Advisor, and TTK ECD Materials and Field Manager to define content, train trainers, and evaluate impact of the programme in terms of daycare managers’ understanding, uptake and developmental impacts on the children. The individual will be responsible for overseeing ECD content delivery in TTK’s 80+ daycare partner businesses, and for recruiting and overseeing a cohort of part-time community-based ECD certificate graduates who TTK intends to retain to support delivery of early learning content in partner informal daycares.
The TTEA’s principal responsibilities will be:
- Developing a monthly content schedule for the daycare partners in conjunction with the TTK ECD staff.
- Be responsible for ensuring that all partner TTK daycare managers and helpers are trained and able to apply this learning in their daily routines.
- Working with the TTK ECD Expert Advisor to develop a teacher and child learning component into the programme so that continuous evaluation of its application and impact can occur.
- Recruiting, mobilizing and supervising a cohort of part-time ECD Certificate graduates to ensure content is delivered at the daycares, and that managers and helpers have the capacity and support they need to ensure that children are well stimulated.
