Responsible for operating cooking equipment, preparing food, mixing ingredients, ensuring food quality, maintaining food preparation areas clean, collecting payment from customers, and serving orders.

Job Description

  1. Prepare specialty foods such as pizzas, fish and chips and sandwiches, following specific methods that usually require short preparation time.
  2. Prepare food of consistent quality with recipe cards and production and portion standards.
  3. Use information about daily menus to help coordinate cooking times.
  4. Prepare and serve beverages such as fresh juice.
  5. Order and receive deliveries from suppliers.
  6. Pre-cook items such as bacon and boerewors in order to prepare them for later use.
  7. Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
  8. Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.
  9. Operate large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fat fryers, or griddles.
  10. Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity.
  11. Read food order slips or receive verbal instructions as to food required by patron, and prepare and cook food according to instructions.
  12. Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking.
  13. Measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared.
  14. Package batches of food, such as French fries and fried chicken, which are prepared to order or kept warm until sold.
  15. Serve orders to customers at windows, counters, or tables.
  16. Stock and restock workstations and display cases.

Required skills and qualifications
  1. Should be innovative, proactive and able to multi-task.
  2. Excellent communication skills and aggressiveness.
  3. Should be customer service oriented.
  4. Ability to work under pressure.
  5. Diploma in food & beverage management, hospitality management/ or any related course. 
  6. At least 2 years of experience.
