The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer with a dotted reporting line to the Regional Finance Director, Africa with responsibility of leading the Finance department in ensuring the institution accomplishes its objectives by ensuring proper financial management, controls, risk management and compliance with existing laws, policies and regulations. The position is stationed in Nairobi.

Specific areas of responsibility:

• Advising the Chief Executive Officer and Leadership team on all matters relating to finance, treasury, accounting, and risk management.

• Submitting timely financial reports to the Board of Directors, Senior Management, regulators, VFI and other stakeholders.

• Leading the development of an overall business plan, strategy and monitoring of the financial performance of the organization against the operational budgets and business plans.

• Maintaining the finance management manuals and ensuring that all changes related to policies and procedures are incorporated in the manual.

• Secretary Asset and Liabilities (ALCO) and Risk committee of management and Chairman of the procurement committee.

• Performing functions specified by the Board Audit and Risk Committee in establishing tolerance for risk and expectations from investment.

• Introducing measures to enhance the credibility and objectivity of financial statements and reports.

• Managing liquidity, funding needs and the appropriate levels of assets and liabilities.

• Developing contingency plans for VFK to withstand liquidity crisis and updates the contingency plans

• Ensuring VFK maintains adequate and accurate records including balance sheet and periodic statements of income and expense.

• Providing the finance department staff with the necessary training and other support to enable them to fulfil their duties accordingly.

• Ensuring compliance to regulators and VFI audits.

• Ensuring compliance to regulations on liquidity, capital, adequacy, and provisioning as well as to reporting requirements set by regulators.

• Attending to inquiries, on-site or off-site, regulators, external auditors, and provides due assistance to the regulators and external auditors during inspection.

• Liaises with tax authorities/consultants whenever necessary.

The ideal candidate must hold a first degree in Finance or its equivalent, be a CPA (K) with at least 10 years’ experience in the field of financial management and accounting at senior Management level. Those with CPA (K) and a Masters Degree in Finance or its equivalent will be required to have at least 5 years’ experience in the field of financial management and accounting at senior Management level. He/she should possess Overall understanding and deep insights into Treasury Management, good knowledge of the local and VFI regulatory requirements under which VFK operates. Determined personality with initiative, perseverance and the ability to motivate and manage a team, capability and willingness to take responsibility and highly developed sense of integrity, ready to comply and live up to and in accordance with the organization’s Ideals and Core Values, be proficient in Microsoft office, SUN Accounting Systems, use of excel spreadsheet and excellent skills in the use of Microfin as tool for planning.

The ideal candidate should also have good understanding of economic and financial topics, be a good trainer, facilitator, mentor and coach with good communication and presentation skills, knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards, leadership skills, initiative and be results oriented. The candidate must also be a committed Christian who is able to stand above denominational diversities and lead other colleagues in daily devotions.

The job is typical office based with at least 20% field travel and at most 10% international travel and may be required to be on call after normal working hours.
