Job Description

Key Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks I. Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

a) Management of staff in the department.
b) Recommend training needs for staff in the department.
c) Performance management i.e. goal setting and appraisal for the staff in the department.
d) Develop and enforce application of policies, procedures and the legislation.
e) Manage relationships with other departments i.e. play the business partner role.

II. Operational Responsibilities / Tasks

a) Custody of the strong room and ensuring safe custody of the Society’s cash and other assets;
b) Supervising and assigning duties to Teller;
c) Confirming of cheques for clearance;
d) Co-ordinating FOSA daily transactions and cash requirements;
e) Keeping treasury book and ensuring adequate cash reserves are maintained; Forecast and make requisition for cash withdrawals based on demand;
f) Reconciliation of cash accounts and customer deposits accounts;
g) Growth on withdrawable deposits;
h) Administering and interpreting the Society’s FOSA policies, procedures and standards;
i) Ensuring accurate records pertaining to FOSA operations are maintained;
j) Ensuring adherence to cash security arrangements as regards to alarm systems, cash limit, safe and strong room;
k) Advising and proposing changes in plans, policies and work procedures in the FOSA;
l) Advising the immediate supervisor about training needs and promotions of FOSA employees;
m) Custodian of the Keys Register in the FOSA;
n) Approving debit card applications and linking the cards once issued to members;
o) Carrying out snap check on the tellers cash and Debit cards & PIN registers to ensure reconciliations are done on daily basis;
p) Ensuring general cleanliness and tidiness within the FOSA premises; and
q) Any other lawful duties that may be assigned from time to time.

III. Financial Responsibility:

a) Prepare the annual budget for the department.
b) Collate and guide on procurement budgets.
c) Approving and monitoring expenditures for the department.

IV. Responsibility for Physical Assets

a) Responsible for proper allocation of assets to staff in the Department
b) Overall responsibility for all assets in the department.
c) Responsible for all assets in his/her possession.

V. Academic Qualifications

a) A degree in Business, Finance or Economics
b) A diploma in Banking or Co-operative Management or its equivalent will be an added advantage.
c) CPA (K) or its equivalent will be an added advantage;

IV. Previous relevant work experience required.

Have worked at least 5 years’ in the SACCO field, 3 of which must be as a FOSA In-Charge or Similar Position
