Job Description and Duties

  1. Feed infants and toddlers on a predefined schedule (and as needed depending on each child’s hunger cues) and guide them to feed themselves when necessary
  2. Maintain a consistent nap schedule in accordance with the child’s developmental stage
  3. Interact with infants and toddlers to gauge their personalities and abilities
  4. Implement individually placed plans for infants and toddlers based on each child’s intellectual and developmental growth
  5. Ensure that infants’ physical and social needs are fulfilled by grooming, feeding and engaging in conversation and play with them
  6. Respond to each child’s physical and social needs in a proactive manner
  7. Ensure that each child’s hygiene needs are met promptly – Including changing diapers as needed, ensuring prompt toileting for potty training toddlers and dutiful hand washing before all meals, after toilet use and after outside play.
  8. Encourage children to use and develop their muscles by engaging them in active physical play
  9. Soothe distressed children by employing calming methods such as physical contact or verbal communication or a mix of both
  10. Stimulate developmental growth by encouraging children to participate in creative play
  11. Stimulate language development by engaging children in conversation and actively reading to them daily
  12. Foster independence by positively encouraging children to perform age and developmentally appropriate tasks e.g. feeding themselves, hand washing, tidying toys, potty training etc
  13. Encourage healthy social interactions among children through group play, and by reinforcing positive behaviors such as kindness, sharing, gentleness, taking turns etc.
  14. Ensure the safety of each child during their time at the facility
  15. Ensure that all toys provided are clean and safe for infants to use
  16. Perform emergency procedures such as First Aid and CPR in the event of an emergency
  17. Observe children for signs of developmental or physical problems and report them to the on-site nurse or director
  18. Maintain daily records and reports for each child
  19. Communicate with parents or guardians regarding child’s progress or problems
  20. Assess and evaluate children and create appropriate reports for reference purposes



  • Above all, a proven love for children and a positive and caring demeanor to allow for the social and emotional development of our children.
  • Willingness and ability to strictly adhere to daycare’s schedules, rules and regulations to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children
  • Physical ability to attend to childrens’ needs including but not limited to; lifting up to 25kg, physical play (jumping, dancing), bending, and or standing for periods of time etc.
  • Completed certificate in ECDE or Montessori teacher training
  • Prior experience of 1-3 years in a childcare setting
  • 3 professional references
  • Satisfactory completion of medical screening prior to start of employment (employer will provide for screening at a medical facility of their choosing to short-listed applicants).
