Job Description

Location: Addis Ababa 

 

Job purpose 

Within the framework of the company’s Strategic Plan, the overall purpose of the position is to lead and coordinate the development of annual research and CI department plan, formulation of annual budget, providing supportive supervision during implementation of research and CI projects, conducting variance analysis of project performances including financial performance; develop and execute staff performance management System; and prepare and submit both department performance report and Research project reports.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

Business Development

·         Promoting the Research and CI services among internal and external customers

·         Scouting and prospecting new clients beyond existing client base

·         Develop annual business plan to ensure profitability of the Research and CI responsibility Center

 

Research and CI Project Management

·         Developing study design in response to research Briefs from existing and new clients

·         Selecting and adopting study conceptual frameworks for the study design and secure approval of client

·         Developing and testing survey instruments including digital data collection tools

·         Providing ToT (Training of the Trainers) for field supervisors and enumerators

·         Developing data quality assurance system and ensure the system is properly adhered to

·         Provide supportive supervision that data collection are properly carried out

·         Prepare and submit research Reports

·         Present to client on research findings and recommendations

 

Organizing and Leading Research department and Staff

  • Support identification, recruitment and retention of talents
  • Develop Work profiles and Job Description for research staff
  • Secure performance agreement and Key Performance Indicators based on Job Profiles
  • Provide both Informal and Formal Feedback as per defined assessment frequency
  • Conduct annual performance review

·         Closely consult with HR on staff motivation and disciplining

Budget formulation and Control

·         Draw project costing in close consultation with Finance and Client Services

·         Review historical data to prepare an accurate prediction of a year’s future expenses

·         Prepare cost catalogue to facilitate budget formulation and accurate estimation of resources that match scope of work proposed to clients

·         Facilitate budget review and develop rolling estimate of the budget for optimal utilization of resources

·         Conduct Variance Analysis on status of budget utilization so that project spending is neither run over budget that leads to eroded profitability

3.5  Departmental Reporting

  • Prepare and present periodic Departmental reports and submit to the Manager (Social Change Programs) and Managing Director to facilitate appropriate interim decisions.

·         The reports should be Reliable, Complete, Timely, and based on agreed format and frequency

3.6  Admin Responsibilities

In close consultation with Corporate HR, Procurement and Transport support units,

  • Manage and record staffs’ annual leave roster and ensure all annual leave is used within the current year. Record and manage all staff related leaves such as compassionate, sick leave, as per HR Manual;
  • Manage and address all staff personal issues following the HR manual guidelines;
  • Provide the necessary materials and equipment to project staff for their day to day activities;
  • Monitor and follow-up on the performance of all staff;
  • Ensure that all incoming and outgoing letters, emails and correspondences are systematically segregated and maintained in order to identify archive and retrieve easily and passed on to the appropriate person/office;
  • Responsible for managing and organizing documentation System;

Any other duties as requested. 

 

 

Qualifications

·         At least a Master’s Degree in Social Science, Statistics, Marketing and other related fields and with additional trainings in research science

 

Minimum of 5 years of proven and progressive work experience in managing Research and Marketing departments, preferably in FMCG
