Public policies and Public Management around the world are being rapidly redesigned in the light of the New International Economic Order. New trends such as public expenditure reductions, economic liberalization,
public management, the globalisation of economic activities and social processes are making demands on management rationale and thinking. It is against this background that developing countries and newly industrializing economies like Mauritius face the particular problem of how to manage competitiveness and ensure continuously rising standards of living for its citizens all by maintaining social harmony and stability in a multi-ethnic and political context.
