Course Description

Public policies and Public Management around the world are being rapidly redesigned in the light of the New International Economic Order. New trends such as public expenditure reductions, economic liberalization,
public management, the globalisation of economic activities and social processes are making demands on management rationale and thinking. It is against this background that developing countries and newly industrializing economies like Mauritius face the particular problem of how to manage competitiveness and ensure continuously rising standards of living for its citizens all by maintaining social harmony and stability in a multi-ethnic and political context.
Facing these challenges requires a new breed of policy makers and managers, conversant in local and international concerns and issues, multi-disciplinary in approach and multi-skilled in the discharge of duties and responsibilities. This programme provides for training at postgraduate level in the key aspects of public policymaking and public sector management. The unique combination of conceptual, analytical, technical and management skills will prepare professionals tailor-made for the world of policy advocacy and management.
Senior Public Servants will find this programme of great value in acquiring the skills they need in today’s public policy environment.
The Programme will run over 2 years. Modules will be offered on an afternoon and evening basis. In the last semester candidates will be required to submit a dissertation.
The Programme which is designed for administrators, economists, planners, accountants, academics and
researchers concerned with policy-making and management in the public sector will normally accommodate
candidates with a first degree, but great importance will also be attached to the candidate’s experience.
