The Wits BCom is a 3 year degree, or, if studied part-time, between 4 and 6 years (for part-time study options please refer to the Wits Plus website).
The study of commerce provides a firm foundation in the content and technique of accounting, business science, law, economics and mathematics, essential to the proper practice of commercial and accounting skills. Wits is also at the forefront of business information systems. Our lecturers maintain close ties with the business world resulting in a direct benefit for our students. Focused lectures, small tutorial groups, guided reading, exposure to the latest in international business trends, as well as individual attention from top lecturers, nurtures conceptual skills in students and brings a clear understanding of how businesses and enterprise in the economy work.
The full-time BCom is offered as a double major general degree with a choice of majors/plans from a variety of disciplines, or with one major chosen from another faculty (Faculty of Humanities or Faculty of Science). This caters to a wide range of interests and potential careers. Choices include Psychology, Computer Science, Computational and Applied Maths and Mathematical Statistics.
All BCom degrees require first year courses in Economics, Accountancy, Law, Computational Mathematics, Business Statistics and Information Systems. From second year onwards, students elect their majors from disciplines such as: Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Insurance and Risk Management, Management and Human Resource Management, and Marketing, or from majors such as Accountancy, Taxation, Auditing, Law or selective approved majors from other faculties.
