Job Description:

Africa Healthcare Network (AHN) is building the first dialysis chain across East Africa, providing high-quality, life-saving dialysis at an affordable cost to both the local patient population and patients from neighboring countries, which do not have centers of their own. AHN brings world-class technical expertise combined with developing world practical operating experience to a region in dire need of quality dialysis treatment. In North America, over 97% of patients requiring treatment for kidney disease receive care; in East Africa, less than 5% receive care. AHN's goal is to increase access to high quality care at a lower cost to patients, delivered through a sustainable business model. AHN is currently operating in Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and will be expanding to West Africa.

The purpose of this role is to oversee and implement thriving business development strategies that are vibrant and sustainable. The role's focus shall be 70% of the time on Business Development and Dialysis service partnership agreement activities while the remaining 30% will be dedicated to Dialysis service consumables distribution in country. This role is suited to an individual who is not only versatile, but also adept at ideation and development of innovative ideas that provide solutions to challenges that may arise in a dynamic organization environment. AHN Kenya Ltd has been expanding its services to different regions and thus provides exciting opportunities for growth within the company and with and continuous involvement in new projects. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development

  • Leading Business Development initiatives and driving growth through tactical strategy support, effectively managing key resources and budgets, and focusing on results and continued revenue growth for the company.
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of business plans for the penetration of new markets.
  • Provides leadership and direction to all aspects of the Business Development/ Marketing department.
  • Develops both short- and long-term plans to accomplish departmental objectives/ goals.
  • Mentors’ direct reports and works collaboratively to support the Clinical/Nursing team and holds them accountable to develop relationships with key referrers at the assigned hospital that translate to volume growth.
  • Builds relationships with referring physicians, administrators and nurses to increase awareness of services and promote business opportunities. Maintains database of key referral sources.
  • Establish contact with other healthcare facilities, including clinics and hospitals for the purpose of obtaining referral business to the company.
  • Conduct negotiations to determine contract terms and ensure profitable deals.
  • Monitor the healthcare competitive landscape, identify key trends and developments and regularly update the senior leadership team, bringing ideas on new business opportunities to the table.
  • Managing complex sales activities building strong relationships with the stakeholders (clinicians, finance, and procurement).
  • Managing and coordinating on ground marketing initiatives, might include travelling to clinics often to collect survey information, feedback etc.
  • Attend clinical meetings, seminars, and conferences as appropriate.
  • Carries out extensive field tours.

Sales and Marketing

  • Create and implement effective sales strategies and lead direct sales personnel towards the achievement of corporate sales objectives.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual sales forecasts.
  • Create and implement effective direct sales strategies and lead nationwide direct sales personnel towards the achievement of corporate sales objectives.
  • Tasked with overseeing the activities and performance of your sales team by tracking sales goals, setting individual sales targets, and facilitating the ongoing training of your salespeople.
  • Manage the sales and marketing functions of the business to maximise returns and expand a business brand.
  • Set and enforce customer service standards to ensure clients are satisfied with received services/products.
  • Establish relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and Key Decision Makers in order to create market awareness of the services and products through representations.

Supply Chain and Distribution

  • Coordinate and report on the progress of all activities of Catheter and Dialysis Kits purchases, logistics, warehousing and distribution as key supply chain functions;
  • Develop ethical and strategic relationships with key suppliers ensuring cost saving targets are achieved without compromising the quality of materials and services;
  • Ensure compliance and conformity of procurement policies with the industry, the hospital and regulatory bodies/authorities;
  • Transform the procurement infrastructure in to a supply chain center of excellence in line with international standards and benchmark with other institutions;
  • Build, lead and motivate a competent supply chain & distribution management team that will in turn ensure that the division has the right people in the right places to sustainably support the delivery of supply chain and distribution services
  • Develop and implement appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) across the supply chain process and supplier onboarding, partnership and blacklisting policy and procedures;
  • Develop, evaluate and implement procurement plans and budget to support the execution of the business strategic plan;
  • Develop and implement an effective procurement management information system for monitoring and tracking cost of materials, goods and services in order to control expenditure and ensure efficient use of organizational resources;
  • Any other assigned work. 


Desired Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sales/Marketing, Business Administration or a similar field. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years’ working experience as a Business Development Lead, Sales manager or in a relevant role.
  • Clinical knowledge, specific equipment and dialysis kit knowledge is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of the in-country Health landscape (strong networks within the industry is an added advantage)
  • Ability to work with sales targets and a good understanding of the sales process. 
  • Highly target drive with excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving presentation and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and regulatory standards
  • Proven success in relationship development and training/mentoring of team members
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with people at all levels in the organization.
  • Previous exposure to Medical Devices / Healthcare Professional Services industry preferred
  • Ability to network and build a relationship
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time
