Business Development Manager - Legal

Job Summary

We are hiring a Business Development – cum – Relationship Manager to take over a mix of existing accounts and source for new business for our legal business based in Nairobi. To excel in this role, you should be an active listener, have a compelling sales personality, hunger to chase and close new business from cold calls and inbound warm leads

Job Description/Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The person in this position will be in charge of marketing and business development activities the firm and maintaining existing client accounts.


Specific responsibilities include:
•    Contacting potential clients to establish rapport and arrange meetings;
•    Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives;
•    Researching organizations and individuals to find new opportunities;
•    Increasing the value of current customers while attracting new ones;
•    Attending conferences, meetings, and industry events;
•    Developing quotes, presentations, pitch materials and proposals for clients;
•    Developing goals for the development team and business growth and ensuring they are met;
•    Training personnel and helping team members develop their skills;
•    Maintaining deal databases and recording matters for precedent, marketing, and business development purposes;
•    Assisting with the preparation of deal lists for various practice areas, as well as specific geographical and industry sectors;
•    Coordinating the scheduling and submission of numerous league tables, legal directories, awards and related industry guides (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500, IFLR, LSK branch awards etc.);
•    Updating print and digital marketing materials to ensure content reflects the substantive strengths, accomplishments and current activities of the firm; and
•    Research regarding existing and prospective clients, competitor activity and market trends / opportunities.
 
Qualifications/Position
 
Requirements:

•    Excellent organizational and project management skills;
•    Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
•    Demonstrated ability to work confidently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization;
•    Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty;
•    Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; and
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
 
Education and/or Experience:   
•    5 years of experience in business development and marketing (financial services or law-firm background preferred);
•    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Project Management, Law (LL.B) or other relevant course;
