Job Title: Communications Officer (Female)

Department: Advertising, Media & Communications

Reporting to: Executive Director or their designate

Location: Pangani, Nairobi

Type of Employment: Full time, 9am - 4pm. Probation is 6 months.

Remuneration: Gross salary of Ksh 80,000 - 100,000 + Pension + Medical cover+ More Vacation days

Role Summary

Our client is looking for a Female Communications Offcer who will lead communications and outreach efforts in support of the organization’s core programs of promoting safe, accessible and sustainable, and equitable transport.


She will maintain communication and partnerships with external entities in the industry and to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet business goals for use in technical presentations.



Key Responsibilities

● Document the work of the organization through writing article and success stories: writing and setting up newsletters: updating website descriptions

● Conduct feld visits and produce written and visual documentation of the organization’s work in the form of photography and videography, slideshows.

● Produce various publications such as brochures, fact, sheets, banners, merchandise, media ads, and other visibility products. This includes liaisons with print houses, key staff, etc

● Organize events to facilitate knowledge sharing and build buy-in for the organization

● Function as the communications focal point in the organization.This entails keeping up to date on the programs in order to identify milestones and gather success stories and photographs.

● Facilitate visits from journalists and maintain relations with relevant media outlets.

● Brand management of the organization’s brand across all written and audio-visual publications and events (such as reports, educational material, banners, etc.)

● Quality assures products according to the organization’s brand manual in terms of layout, design, and writing of various publications and visibility materials (such as reports, educational materials, banners, etc)

● Plan and implement the organization’s initiative’s communication strategy

● Coordinate gathering of information of the initiatives activities in the region for documentation preparation (Annual report, programme fact sheets, briefng notes, lessons learned, etc) in conjunction with the program offcers

● Be responsible for budget monitoring, fnancial management and planning, and expenses control related to communications and visibility of products and projects

● Perform any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time


Candidate Requirements:

● Must have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in communications in the non-proft sector

● Female candidates aged up to 34 years old (maximum)

● Female candidates must have a ready portfolio to issue when required.

● Female candidates should have experience with creative design softwares/platforms e.g Canva, Adobe photoshop/illustrator etc is required

● The candidate needs to be capable of taking ownership of the communications department with very little supervision

● High level of capability in the areas of analytical, research and problem solving skills.

● Works well in a team and has social and intercultural skills and proven ability to be fexible and sensitive in demanding situations.

● Good communication skills and fuent command of written and spoken English,Kiswahili and Sheng

● Familiarity with the rights-based approach, social justice, adult empowerment, and gender-sensitive approaches.


NB: A PORTFOLIO OF YOUR WORK MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION. THE PORTFOLIO CAN INCLUDE (NOT LIMITED TO):

● Two samples of written work you solely produced, i.e. a report and article or blog post

● Samples of Visual Design work e.g Social Media Post, Banner, Poster or any other media design work

● Documents and elements of your most successful campaign.
