Job Description
The Commission dates back to when Civil Service Commission was established by British Colonial Government following Holmes Commission Report, ; Civil Service Commission was advisory to the Governor in matters of appointments;
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:-
Heading mineral certification laboratory; Participating in policy formulation and implementation; Providing guidance on strategic direction for all matters pertaining the laboratory section; Developing proposals for research projects related to mineral testing and identification Participating in technical evaluation of quotations and tenders Identifying training needs, supervising and evaluating staff in division; and Validating geochemical and gemological test resultsFor appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-
Served for a minimum period of ten years, three of which must have been at the grade of Principal Chemist, CSG 8 and above or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service; A Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or equivalent qualifications from a university recognized in Kenya; Demonstrated experience in testing and analyzing of precious stones, metals and various minerals; and Attended a short course in Gemology or its equivalent from a recognized institutionImportant Safety Tips
