Our client is one of the region's leading FMCG manufacturers, supplying a wide range of products to the entire East African and COMESA Markets.
Roles and Responsibilities
● Manage the day to day activities relevant to Quality and Product Safety, coordinating activities required to meet Company, Stakeholder and regulatory quality standards.
● Manage and improve procedures, documentation & auditing of the management system. Work closely with operational and technical colleagues to ensure understanding and responsibilities.
● Ensure the internal audit schedule is kept fully updated and all recommendations are relayed back to the relevant business areas, actioned and closed off effectively.
● To draft and follow-up implementation of Quality SOP, s
● Effectively investigate and process complaints, managing the process for any corrective and preventive action.
● Together with Operations Managers, identify training needs to meet quality and food safety requirements and deliver or coordinate internal training where appropriate.
● Regularly communicate with Operations regarding quality and food safety issues, attending daily/ weekly operations meetings to report any relevant issues.
● Help develop a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across the bakeries.
● Continuously develop own knowledge on best practice, networking with colleagues throughout the organization and by keeping abreast of industry and legislative developments.
● To maintain the image of the company by ensuring that all surfaces are kept spotlessly clean, hygienic and all customers products are packaged professionally (depots, supermarkets and institutions).
● Ensure all ingredients received comply with the minimum standards and product specification as per the company requirement.
● Ensure all products and raw materials are received correctly.
● Ensure recipes (mix) and procedures are followed on all products.
● Ensue all products are quality tested in conjunction with Bakery and Operations Manager.
● Ensure that all machine settings are in accordance with the approved operational specification for various products.
● Ensure that only quality approved products leave the bakery. a) check weight of raw dough and final product weight and quality standard
● Ensure that the method of distribution does not affect the product quality.
● Maintain hygiene and cleaning levels in all sections inclusive of the vehicle's spot check.
● Maintain health and safety levels within the bakery and full compliances towards legal aspects on medicals for all employees.
● Maintain high levels of personal hygiene in the factory – PPE usage compliance
● To organize hygienic inspection frequently in the bakery.
● Conduct research and development on new products/services
● Train staff on cleaning procedures, new cleaning techniques and other relevant requirements
● Stay updated with new materials and technology with a view to incorporate them in the company, while being effective and economical.
● Be up to date with latest developments in the relevant consumer markets in order to know how the company is performing against our competitors.
● Liaise with all relevant Government bodies i.e. KEBS on issues related to quality, standard marks, testing etc.
● Track daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly new developments / Legislation
● Keep records of all branches – baking tins, wire, trollies and crates quality status
● Keep and update records on all machinery – bakery ware and weighing scales
● Spot checks on hygiene and other practices at the bakeries
● Monthly reports on Quality parameters
Academic and Professional Qualifications
● Degree or Diploma / Graduate in Food Technology/Microbiology/Food Science.
Knowledge and Experience
● 5-8 years of working experience as Quality Controller in food manufacturing industry
● Proven track record as a Quality Controller within a Quality Management System environment.
● Detailed knowledge of food safety standards.
● Quality and process control in a customer oriented facing role
● Certified Internal Auditor Status
● Ability to create Quality Management Documentation (Policies/Procedures/General Instructions).
● Excellent communication skills (Oral, Reading & Writing) with the ability to influence and motivate people
