Head of Animal Health – Role is based in Naivasha

Essential Duties
•    Develop a general animal health care protocol (Herd health program) and ensure good animal health status at all times
•    Plan and ensure diseases control practises such as vaccinations and proper use of wheel and foot baths are effective
•    Monitoring daily hygiene of animals, paddocks, feeding troughs, watering areas and milking pallor
•    Ensure daily monitoring of availability of animal feeds and water in all paddocks
•    Plan for and ensure parasites and vector controls in the livestock are effected.
•    Ensure all animals’ clinical cases are treated and/or attended as reported by herders or Animal Health Supervisors
•    Ensure a good and effective breeding programme
•    Conducting minor and major surgical operations on Animals and Post-mortems on dead livestock
•    Carry out artificial Insemination and pregnancy checks on a regular basis.
•    Ensure animal grooming practises such as de horning, docking, castration e.t.c. are done
•    Ensure proper animal health records are generated and properly maintained. e.g. through use of Cattle Max ERP or other hard copies.
•    Assisting in animal monthly stock take
•    In liaison with the Animal Health Team, develop working schedules and coordinate all Animal Health Operations e.g. trainings, implementation & execution of company policies and plans directed by senior Management.
•    Supervision, Evaluation and Appraisals of staff in the animal health section.
•    Implementation of QMS in the farm (ensure all SOPs are updated and operational)
•    Perform any other relevant duties as may be assigned.
      
Requirements
•    Degree in Animal Health and Production or related field
•    Veterinary License a MUST
•    At least 4 years experience
•    Conversant with Insurance Claims reporting guidelines
•    MUST be able to do post mortem upon death of the livestock
•    Be ready to relocate to Naivasha
