About the Role
The Rural Retail (Duka) team is looking for professionals with at least 1 year of work experience and a demonstrated passion for serving smallholder farmers. Our mission to One Acre Fund is to operate a growing number of rural retail outlets (Dukas). We are hiring a Deputy Duka Officer to work with the Duka Officer to manage one of these Dukas. You will be important to the success of this exciting venture. As one of One Acre Fund's Deputy Duka Officers, you will manage the customer experience and performance of your allocated shop.
Responsibilities
Complete sales transactions
- Verify what product a client wants to purchase
- Explain available payment options available to clients - cash, Layaway or credit options
- Confirm clients recruited through the Field officer
- Advise the farmer on how to complete the transaction
- Record transactions.
Sales and Marketing
- Make recommendations to clients based on their specific needs;
- Explain the benefits of multiple products;
- Suggest products for clients to purchase.
Customer service
- Provide all clients with quality customer service - aim for a positive and lasting impression;
- Answer customer questions and respond promptly to customer complaints;
- Manage customer expectations in resolving complaints e.g., crop health or germination issues;
- Support clients in carrying products from duka.
Inventory management & Record keeping
- Support Duka officers to record cash or credit transactions;
- Conduct inventory counts, and support inventory deliveries.
- Organize the stock in the stock room and display area;
- Offload stock during delivery;
- Bring products to the farmer.
Innovation and process improvement
- Listen to customer feedback and recommend changes to the shop based on that feedback;
- Support market price research.
Support other Duka Management
- Attend the weekly/bi-weekly virtual team meetings/training;
- Monitor foot traffic and visitors to ensure theft does not take place
- Clean the interior and exterior structure weekly.

Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- At least 1-year of experience working in sales, marketing or business management;
- Knowledge of agricultural products and practices;
- Experience managing an agro vet preferred, or other relevant agricultural experience;
- Computer literacy especially Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word skills
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili;
- Preference for a certificate or Diploma from a recognized academic institution in sales, agriculture or marketing.
