Job Description/Requirements

We are a new health dispensary located in Joska, Machakos county within a compound of boarding primary school.  We are looking for a laboratory technologist who will attend our pupils and also patients from community.


Laboratory Technologist is responsible for all laboratory activities within the dispensary. This will include performing routine and complex analytical tests on human body fluids and tissues to provide accurate data to the health care tea for optimal diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease states. The Laboratory Technologist may also be required to conduct other activities as assigned by the Dispensary Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collection, preparation and management of samples and specimen including safe disposal; 
  • Cleaning of laboratory apparatus and equipment; 
  • Media preparation for culture and sensitivity; 
  • Keeping of laboratory records;
  • Inventory and Stock Management; 
  • Prepare the laboratory equipment and specimens for tests; 
  • Prepare clients for specimens’ collection; 
  • Receive, collect, label and register patients’ specimens; 
  • Undertake quality control measures on working reagents to ensure conformity with set norms and standards; 
  • Prepare, store and ensure availability and optimum utilization of reagents; 
  • Document all processes and results to ensure availability of supportive information and give reports on the same; 
  • Implement all set stock control procedures to ensure accountability; 
  • Maintain high standards in good laboratory practice, laboratory safety, and laboratory hygiene; 
  • Process specimens for special techniques including viral load and CD4 counts; 
  • Write, record and verify results; 
  • Ensure superior customer experience to all internal, external community members and other stakeholders; 
  • Management and maintenance scheduling of Laboratory equipment;
  • Maintain client and clinic operational data using our electronic medical records and other information systems
  •  Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisors.
Requirements for Appointment
  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Valid license by KMLTTB
  • 3 years’ experience in hematology, biochemistry and microbiology and TB diagnosis
  • Knowledge and experience in using computerized management information systems applications and tools
