A. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, LIVESTOCK AND FISHERIES
12. Laboratory Technician/Analyst (JOB GROUP CPSB 09) (2 POSTS)
The Laboratory Analyst Officer shall be responsible to the County Director of Veterinary Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Receiving, labeling and analyzing samples (blood, toxic, tissue etc.)
ii. To process samples submitted for analysis using automated and manual techniques leading to provision of accurate results to clinicians, research Workers and Livestock Keepers.
iii. To organize the daily workload to ensure prioritization of critical cases including notification and discussion of results with veterinary officers to ensure provision of a reliable service.
iv. To perform diagnostic tests, as and when required.
v. To use the laboratory information management system for the inputting, processing and reporting of results.
vi. To package and deliver/send requests to external laboratories for further investigations and analysis, subsequently entering the results into the computer system and reporting to requesting clinicians.
vii. To work closely with and communicate effectively with other Laboratory Staff, Clinicians and Administrative Staff.
viii. To assist Livestock Farmers with any technical enquiries they may have that relate to the processing of samples.
ix. To comply with Health, Safety Regulations and Risk Assessments, also following good Laboratory Practice and Procedures for the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
i. Should possess a Bachelor Degree in any of the following: Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory, Biotechnology, Applied Biology and Industrial Chemistry from a recognized Institution.
ii. Proficiency in Computer Applications.
iii. Good command of written and verbal communication.
iv. Ability to liase with Staff and Clients at all levels.
v. Experience in provision of a Customer Oriented Diagnostic Service.
vi. Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
vii. Accurate record keeping and data management plans.
viii. Ability to work independently as well as contribute to supportive team environment.
ix. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on Leadership and Integrity.
a) Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation
b) Clearance Certificate from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
c) Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
d) Clearance from the Ethics &Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
e) Clearance from Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
