The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is established under Article 171 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. The mandate of the Commission is to promote and facilitate independence and accountability of the Judiciary and the efficient, effective and transparent administration of Justice.
The Commission invites applications from qualified candidates to fill the following vacancy.
POSITION: Law Clerk (LC)

Number of Posts : Six (6)
Terms of Service : Three (3) year Contract renewable once Subject to satisfactorily performance
Consolidated Gross Salary Scale : Kshs. 180,000 – 324,000 p.m.
The job holder will be responsible for carrying out research work for the Judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya
The job holder is responsible to the designated Supreme Court Judge.
Area of Deployment:
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i. Examining pleadings and fully apprehending their tenor and effect;
ii. Examining the detailed content of the facts and decisions of the Courts below;
iii. Carrying out Legal Research work for the Judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya;
iv. Taking stock of the full tenor and effect of the submissions made in the Supreme Court and the lower Courts;
v. Researching on precedent setting authorities within various jurisdiction both within and without Commonwealth;
vi. Presenting findings within sound written arguments in light of academic legal literature and case law;
vii. Drafting bench memoranda and well-planned legal briefs on variety of legal issues touching on different branches of law; and
viii. Preparing pre-trial and post –trial media summaries. Job Requirements: Academic and Professional Qualifications:
For appointment to this grade, the applicant must have: -
i. Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized University;
ii. A Post Graduate Diploma in Law;
iii. Be an Advocate of the High Court with a current practicing certificate;
iv. Membership to Law Society of Kenya;
v. A Senior Management Course or its equivalent will be added advantage;
vi. Proficiency in Computer applications;
vii. Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
viii. Met the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
Six (6) years post admission practicing experience or six (6) years of extensive legal research in a relevant legal field
