Job Description

Africa Healthcare Network (AHN) is building the first dialysis chain across East Africa, providing high-quality, life-saving dialysis at an affordable cost to both the local patient population and patients from neighbouring countries, which do not have centers of their own. AHN brings world-class technical expertise combined with developing world practical operating experience to a region in dire need of quality dialysis treatment. In North America, over 97% of patients requiring treatment for kidney disease receive care; in East Africa, less than 5% receive care. AHN's goal is to increase access to high quality care at a lower cost to patients, delivered through a sustainable business model. AHN is currently operating in Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and will be expanding to West Africa.

The registered nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical nursing care to patients receiving treatment at AHN dialysis Centre.

Duties & Responsibilities

•    Center Management

o    Lead the unit team in implementation of annual goals and objectives in accordance with organization strategic objectives.
o    Ensures that the highest quality nursing care is provided to patients and their families by leading the improvement of the patient experience, appointment bookings and patients after follow-ups.
o    Ensures compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements specific to the unit and enhancing streamlined processes, patience experience and overall nurse performance.
o    Oversees the preparation of the nursing rota, schedules utilizing wage. Overtime and flex staff as appropriate
o    Own center level action items that are a result of KPI and Audit meetings
o    Coordinate with the Country Head/Center Manager the scheduling of patients to ensure accommodations of all patients per clinic’s policies.
o    Assign Unit Level Responsibilities and monitor adherence
o    Provide mentorship to Junior Nurses

•    Clinical Care
o    Ensure highest standard of care is delivered to patients at the center level
o    Provide clinical mentorship to nurses within the center, advising on best practice care and ensuring areas for improvement are addressed
o    Ensure clear, correct and timely documentation for all nursing procedures and cares within the unit
o    Set up and operates dialysis machines to provide dialysis treatment for patients.
o    Mix dialysate, according to formula
o    Primes dialyzer with saline or heparinized solution to prepare machine for use
o    Take and record patient’s predialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate
o    Explain dialysis procedure and operation of hemodialysis machine to patients before treatment
o    Clean area of access, using antiseptic solution
o    Inspect equipment settings, including settings, including pressures, conductivity and temperature to ensure conformance to safety standards
o    Inspect venous and arterial pressures as registered on equipment to ensure pressures are within established limits
o    Calculate fluid removal or replacement to be achieved during dialysis procedures
o    Monitor patients for adverse reaction and hemodialysis machine for malfunction
o    Taking care of R.O system and its regular maintenance activities
o    Monitor stock for expiration dates, quantity, consumption etc

Requirements:
•    A Registered Nurse with a Diploma in nursing from a reputable institution.
•    Valid license from the nursing council required.
•    5 – 8 Years of Experience (have worked in a leadership capacity)
•    Experience in dialysis treatment an added advantage.
•    Excellent analytical reasoning skills and meticulous attention to detail
•    Commitment to providing high quality care and excellence
•    Ability to mentor others
•    Ability to work effectively with a team in a culturally diverse environment
•    Ability to work under minimum supervision
