Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

1. Undertaking general diagnosis, care, treatment and rehabilitation of patients;

2. Carrying out specialized clinical care;

3. Providing psycho-social interventions;

4. Providing clinical services to patients;

5. Training, consulting and performing surgeries in various health facilities;

6. Carrying out forensic and medico-legal services;

7. Coordinating disease surveillance;

8. Prevention and control;

9. Coordinating health education and promotion;

10. Implementing health projects and programmes;

11. Maintaining up-to-date health information systems;

12. Monitoring provision of health treatment and care;

13. Undertaking health research;

14. Analyzing medical reports.

Requirements

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

1. Served as Medical Specialist in the relevant discipline for a minimum period three (3) years

2. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B;Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;

3. Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Medicine, Anesthesia, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Paediatrics and Child Health, Pathology, Radiology or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;

4. Certificate of Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;

5. Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;

6. Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution; and

7. Demonstrate professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results.
