Position: Project Officer; Local Poultry Rearing and Livelihood Support Projects

Answerable to the Child Sponsorship Program Manager, an officer at this position will be responsible for discharging the following key duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Miral Welfare Foundation Kenya’s guiding principles:


Duties and responsibilities

Program planning and implementation:

  •  Develop and implement project timelines, goals, objectives according to the needs of the beneficiaries.
  •  Coordinate the sourcing and distribution of quality chicks and relevant input from certified vendors/ suppliers.
  •  Promote sustainable project implementation strategies/ activities that align with the overall goal of improving
  • livelihoods and wellbeing of the children enrolled within the program.
  •  Develop and implement sustainable strategies for continuity of the project activities beyond the project period.


Training and Capacity Building

  •  Assess the needs of the beneficiaries, identify and suggest suitable topics for training.
  •  Prepare training plans detailing the goals, objectives and expected outcomes of the training.
  •  Search for qualified trainers in line with the training plan.
  •  Facilitate training of beneficiaries on the best poultry rearing practices and livelihood support activities according to projects goals.
  • Develop and implement a value-chain and marketing strategies for farmer groups.
  • Provide technical support to local groups in areas such as savings and loaning and financial literacy empowerment for sustainable development.


Monitoring and Evaluation

  •  Regularly monitor the progress of poultry rearing and Livelihood Support activities by the individual beneficiaries to ensure targets are being met.
  •  Provide professional support and advisory services to the beneficiaries.
  •  Collect and analyze data on all project activities.


Other responsibilities

  •  Prepare and update regular reports relating to the projects for filing and/ or sharing with donors and other stakeholders.
  •  Prepare activity expense requests and maintain accurate records of project activities and expenditures in line
  • with the allocated budget.
  •  Engage, mobilize and motivate the beneficiaries to actively participate in all project activities.
  •  Work together with other staff and stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of other program activities.
  •  Discharge any other duties and responsibilities with professionalism, as may be assigned by the Project Manager and/ or the Country Director from time to time.


Job Requirements

Education: At least a Diploma in Agricultural extension, Livestock production, Entrepreneurship, or related field in

social science. A bachelor’s degree will be an added advantage


Work Experience:

  •  Minimum 2 years of experience within the field of the agricultural extension and other related area is required.
  • Experience in IT and digital marketing platforms will be added advantage


Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as reporting, evaluating, and planning.
  • Ability to maintain positive, collaborative, productive relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to devise creative solutions to complex problems and issues
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; well organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • A keen understanding of business/enterprise development and development issues including Groups Savings and Loan approaches added an advantage.
  • Proficient in computer and organizational skills; ability to use other digital tools for data entry, research, and data collection purposes.
  • The ability to communicate fluently in (English, Swahili, and Dholuo languages will be an added advantage)
