Job Description (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The Mater Hospital was opened in by the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic Order of Nuns originating from Ireland, three years after registering themselves as the Registered Trustees of an entity under the Perpetual Succession Act (the succeeding legislation after independence). The “Sisters of Mercy” first set up a 60 bed general hospital to cater mainly for the poor, indigenous Kenyans, with the primary mission being general healthcare. The colonial authorities granted 12 acres of land in a swampy, mosquito-infested area, which has since become the Industrial Area of Nairobi. In , a 60-bed maternity ward was opened with antenatal, postnatal and immunization clinics attached in order to upgrade the quality of maternity healthcare available to the poorer segments of the Nairobi population. In , in recognition of the contribution of the hospital in training midwives to assist births in rural areas,Main Duties Provision of a consultative service for paediatric patients under other units or departments Ensure supervision for junior medical officers and to provide support for the senior medical staff in the care of the Unit/Department’s patients Review and manage referred paediatric patients at A & E In liaison with the Consultants, conduct ward rounds and review all paediatric in-patients at the wards, ICU, General Nursery and Special Care Unit Facilitate the timely admission and discharge of all patients in accordance with hospital policy Review all investigation results in a timely manner, and to ensure all paediatric prescribing is undertaken with utmost care Regular attendance both in-hours and out-of-hours according to manning charts or rosters Assist management in drawing up and implementing policies and procedures for the Unit Ensure that patients/families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and follow-up Participation in the relevant department/unit quality activities program(s) as requested by the Units/Departments Be responsive to patient and relatives’ complaints, liaising with appropriate senior staff and the patient advocate Participate in the management of patients in the Well Baby Clinic Participate in Cardiac Camps, when necessary Required Qualifications for the Position Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery MMed. in Paediatrics Registered with KMPDC
