The sales associate is responsible for dealing with any and all customer questions about the products the brand offers. They help the customer with returns, refunds, and resolve common complaints. Key responsibilities are selling, maintaining the presentation of the sales, products, signage, and displays.

Job Description/Requirements

Sales Associate duties and responsibilities 

The primary duty of the Sales Associate is to promote the brands products through excellent customer service. The responsibilities include the following: 

  • Maintaining friendly and professional customer interactions;
  • Working as a team member to provide the highest level of service to customers;
  • Demonstrating that customers come first by serving them with a sense of urgency;
  • Staying knowledgeable about the brands different products and fabrics and being able to explain the benefits;
  • Explaining to customers what products will work best for them and recommending products to increase customers’ options and enrich their shopping experience;
  • Opening and closing the store, including managing the cash register, receiving and processing cash and credit payments for in store purchases, accepting and processing online orders, operating the Point of Sales register (Pesapal), resolving return issues and banking any cash received;
  • Restocking, organizing and pricing garments and merchandising the store;
  • Undertaking inventory (bi-monthly) and reconciling with Sales and Inventory Reports;
  • Promoting the business with confidence as well as promoting special sales, offers and awareness of store loyalty program;
  • Providing support to the Managing Director and performing administrative duties as assigned.

Sales Associate skills and qualifications

A successful Sales Associate candidate should have various prerequisite skills and qualifications needed for their duties in the store. The following are the prerequisites for the position:

  • High school or college diploma
  • Two years’ retail sales experience
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Focusing on customer satisfaction
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and a positive attitude
  • In-depth knowledge and interest in fashion 
  • Merchandising and styling experience
  • Working knowledge of POS payment systems, Google Sheets, Excel and Shopify e-commerce platform
  • Ability to perform basic math, some Knowledge of bookkeeping to balance the register after a shift and reconciling the Sales and Inventory Reports
  • Ability to stand for extended period of time
  • Have a valid ID
