Job Description/Requirements

Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC) is a State Corporation established by the Government of Kenya under the Kenya Leather Development Council Order, 2011 (Legal Notice No. 1 14 of 9th September, 201 1), under the State Cor-porations Act (Cap. 4 4 6), Laws of Kenya, to provide leadership and policy direction in regulation, production processing and marketing in leather industry so as to promote equitable development and poverty reduction.

Pursuant to this objective, the Council is seeking to recruit qualified officers for the positions of:

Job Purpose:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the public relations, building and sustaining the Council’s reputation for quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction by strategizing communication plans based on the essence of a brand with a strong focus on media management aiming to create focused visibility and awareness.

Key Responsibilities:
(i) Develop and implement strategic plans for corporate communications department;
(ii) Drive corporate strategy and message development, pitch and announcement strategies;
(iii) Develop branding initiatives, internal communications and external media relations;
(iv) Determine communications strategy and execute programs to deliver communications objectives throughout the organization;
(v) Develop communication strategies for delivery of corporate culture and business strategy;
(vi) Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external key stakeholders to ensure proper dissemination of information;
(vii) Manage media relations and maximize media opportunities;
(viii) Planning and executing the Council’s participation in key corporate events;
(ix) Developing web content and updating the website;
(x) Preparing and producing reports and other publications;
(xi) Identifying and recommending branding and publicity opportunities for the Council;
(xii) Establish a knowledge management system to facilitate continuity at each level of the corporate communications department; and
(xiii) Develop delivery and packaging plans for corporate messages including Council’s mission, vision and corporate values.

Job Specification:
For appointment to this grade a candidate must: -

(i) Have a Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Relations or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
(ii) Have a minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience;
(iii) Have extensive public relations experience;
(iv) Have experience in media, communications or journalism, corporate affairs and media management;
(v) Have knowledge of branding principles and tactics;
(vi) Have sound written and verbal communications skills;
(vii) Be an expert in strategic and proactive leadership;
(viii) Possess creative and visionary leadership skills;
(ix) Show merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
(x) Possess proven ability to design, develop and implement both communications and strategic programs and supporting tactics;
(xi) Be a member of a professional body;
(xii) Be proficient in computer applications including knowledge in desktop publishing;
(xiii) Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Interested candidates are expected to fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya. Specifically, they mist obtain and submit with their application, copies of the following:
1. Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations
2. Clearance/Compliance Certificate from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
3. Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority
4. Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
5. Clearance from recognized Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
