JOB DESCRIPTION
1. POSITION TITLE: Senior Officer – Environment, Sustainability & Governance
2. REPORTS TO: GROUP HEAD OF HUMAN CAPITAL
3. BASIC FUNCTION
This position is responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating all Environment, Sustainability and Governance policies, procedures and activities to ensure compliance with all relevant legal, Quality Management System and company requirements. The role shall set out a clear agenda to support the sustainability transition as well as work across sustainability topics. The employee can help the company maintain a leading edge in the formulation, delivery, and communication of our sustainability strategy. The role will identify, manage and respond to stakeholder expectations for operating a responsible and sustainable business.
The position will also be responsible to ensure the company’s legal and statutory compliance.
4. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
a) Develop, implement and maintain the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality management policy, procedures and systems
b) Carry out sensitization and training of employees on ESG policies
c) Ensure all facilities are in compliance with statutory requirements, quality management systems and other internal policies
d) Prepare for, co-ordinate and report on audits
e) Investigate, document, report and recommend corrective action for any Environmental Health & Safety incidences arising
f) Responsible for scheduling and chairing safety committee meetings for all ESG matters
g) Ensure all company policies, procedures, and work instructions are documented and followed
h) Continuously review polies, procedures and systems and recommend corrective or preventive actions that may be required
i) Represent the management and liaise with certification partners during ESG and ISO 9001 certification and surveillance audits
j) Document and submit the relevant documents for Fidelity related insurances
k) Ensure company’s legal and regulatory compliance
l) Periodic reporting to management on all matters
m) Write, edit and produce Q&A documents, talking points, presentations and other materials to support Investor Relations and update the Senior Leadership Team
n) Work with country offices and marketing to actively promote social investment initiatives, such as capacity building programs, charitable donations, environmental programs, sponsorships, and others
o) Review requirements for non-financial data and engage with Business Units and Corporate functions to effectively collate data to strengthen our reporting and engagement
p) Support the assurance process of non-financial data (e.g. GHG emissions, social investment)
q) Handle other projects, duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Job Duties
a) Monitor sustainability trends and assess the implications for AutoXpress’ business strategy
b) Work with the external affairs team to strengthen AutoXpress Limited’s climate change policy and coordinate efforts to measure, reduce and mitigate carbon emissions
c) Organize and manage Sustainability and ESG materiality assessments and stakeholder engagement reviews
d) Research, write, and manage production of AutoXpress’ sustainability disclosures including the Sustainability Report, Climate Risk and Resilience Report, Payments to Government Report and Modern Slavery Statement
e) Review peer disclosures and provide recommendations on how to enhance AutoXpress’ sustainability and ESG communications
f) Review requirements for and complete ESG rating submissions (e.g. CDP)
g) Engage with ESG rating agencies to capture and analyse ratings and feedback (e.g. MSCI, ISS)
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant ESG work in a corporate environment, consulting or corporate communications
• Demonstrable experience in best practice reporting
• Knowledge of initiatives such as the Task Force on Climate-Related Disclosures, Sustainable Development Goals and the Value Reporting Foundation
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment

6. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
a) A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, social science or business related field
b) At least 2 years’ experience in SHEQ environment in a leadership role
c) Professional affiliation to SHEQ from a recognized institution
d) DOSH and NEMA certification will be an added advantage
e) Computer literacy in MS Office packages
f) Demonstrated project management experience
g) Knowledge of ESG ratings and indices
h) Knowledge of relevant Kenyan laws
