Impact Water is a social enterprise with headquarters in San Francisco, USA with operations in sub-Sahara Africa. We aim to deliver affordable and sustainable safe drinking water to millions of students through the installation and maintenance of Water Purification Systems at schools.
As a social business, the explicit aim is to deliver safe drinking water to all students to better support their learning and health and to support the government of Kenya and the United Nations in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #6. To date, the enterprise has installed its water purification systems in about 10,000 schools in Kenya.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior School Engagement and Product Usage Officer will be responsible for maximizing the correct and consistent use of Impact Water’s safe water systems by its partner schools. The position achieves this by continuously studying usage barriers and then addressing and overcoming them by creating and implementing evidence-based marketing (education and behavior change-focused) campaigns as well as product design improvements.
The Product Officer should have a strong interest in public health, experience working with schools. or similar institutions, and experience with digital and traditional outreach. S/he should be a confident and adventurous person, excited to improve schools throughout Kenya and help make the human right to safe water a reality for all Kenyan students.
Conduct regular visits to schools to gain insights on challenges school’s face in providing safe drinking water to students
Design and implement Impact Water Kenya’s strategy for digital and traditional outreach to schools and other partner institutions
Research and implement innovative tools and technologies for effective outreach
Become a thought leader on generating behavior change communication materials
Collaborate with Operations team to integrate behavior change communication into resupply and maintenance visits to schools
Participate in local, regional and national school events to network and represent the company
Nurture key partnerships such as school associations, MoE at sub-county and county level through routine outreach
Design surveys and other mechanisms to evaluate product usage at schools
Contribute to the design of data collection forms used by other departments to deepen understanding of product usage
Research and pilot cost-effective technologies that increase usage
Identify ways to use human-centered design thinking to increase usage
Degree in Public Health, Marketing or any of the Social Sciences (Master’s preferred)
Must be able to travel 25% of the time to visit schools across Kenya
Experience in product research and design, commercial and/or social marketing, and behavior change communications is desirable
Experience working with schools is a plus
Excellent knowledge of digital and traditional outreach methods
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. Knowledge of apps like Salesforce, Taroworks, and ODK is a plus
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
