Job Description/Requirements

Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust (RWMT) is a charitable organisation operating in rural Rarieda sub-county in Siaya County. The organisation began as a grass-root CBO in 2003 to assist orphaned children and youth with a focus on community empowerment and development.

Vision: People believing in themselves and working together to build a vibrant and progressive community.

Mission: To empower communities to create positive change especially for children and youth.

We are currently seeking to recruit talented, progressive and team-oriented individuals to fill the following vacant positions;
2. Stop Malaria Community Liaison Officer

II. STOP MALARIA COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER

1. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Stop Malaria Community Liaison Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Malaria Coordinator and will generally oversee the day to day implementation of the Rotary supported Stop Malaria community interventions in parts of Rarieda Sub-county

2. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

R1. Technical Support & Management

• Provide support to the planning, implementation, management, and monitoring of the integrated Community Malaria Case-Management (iCCM) malaria activities within the supported community health units and referral facilities,
• Assist in providing technical expertise and support during training of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs).
• Continuously identify, profile and enroll vulnerable Households with pregnant mothers and under-fives to benefit from the project
• Profile and document all households that are supported through iCCM Strategy,
• Ensure that activities geared towards community level management of malaria activities are effectively supervised.
• Plan for regular opportunities to identify lessons learnt and opportunities for documentation of the project’s work.

R2.Coordination and representation
T.1 Conduct community messaging to increase the uptake and usage of insecticide-treated longlasting mosquito nets (LLITNs) among under fives and pregnant women,
T.2 Implement Community-based Rapid Malaria Diagnosis and treatment (RDT) within the beach communities of Rarieda sub-county.
T.3 Provide overall planning and coordination in training, reporting and supervision visits,
T.4 Liaise with key partners including Sub County Health Management Teams, local leaders, other NGO partners, and other stakeholders (as necessary) to provide synergy for project activities, T.5 Attend malaria and community health services related technical working groups and stakeholder
meetings at the county, sub county and community.
T.6 Provide training to improve the capacities of community resource persons (CHVs, RCCs & Youth Health Ambassadors CHAs) on Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) Strategy,
T.7 Provide monthly written reports to the Malaria Coordinator and M&E Coordinator on the progress towards the malaria project annual objectives; identifying areas for improvement and those requiring follow-up,
T.8 Compile activity reports and success stories for inclusion in the qualitative and quantitative reports submitted to Rotary and Rafiki.

R3. Other Duties and Responsibilities
T.1 Build effective working relationships with government institutions, NGOs and private sector organizations.
T.2 Represent the organization in relevant forums whenever called to.
T.3 Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time and which are related to the achievement of RWMT’s mission and vision.

3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
a) Level of education:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Diploma in Health Sciences, Public Health, Social Sciences or Community Health.

b) Other competencies
• Strong project management skills, as evidenced by impressive academic or professional results
• Excellent computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• Self-Directed
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

c) Job experience
• A minimum of at least 3 years’ experience in an NGO set up implementing community malaria programs.
• Experience working with health service delivery professionals (e.g. Community Health Workers, health care workers)
• Experience with planning, implementing, managing, and/or monitoring and reporting of malaria initiatives
