Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or in a business-related field. However, a master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of and ability to apply accounting concepts; knowledge of tax preparation software and tax research databases; and the ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of data and related compliance/regulations.
• Certified public accountant (CPA). Proficient with Microsoft office tools, especially excel and strong computer skills to perform digital and online related tax duties.
• Strong mathematical and quantitative skills to handle all tax issues audits, and related reconciliations.
• Must be meticulously detailed individuals to ensure excellent reconciliation and consistently accurate filling of reports, preparation of documents, and effective performance of other duties assigned.
• Highly organized individuals with the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects to ensure completion within assigned deadlines.
• Take ownership of projects and see them through to completion. Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Strong analytical skills to create highly detailed tax reports and accurately fill out tax forms.
• Must possess strong verbal and written communications skills necessary for explaining tax processes and making recommendations.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years experience either in a tax dept. Of a CPA firm or on a similar position in another organization.
Duties:
Tax analyst main responsibility is to ensure that the organization pays the right amount of taxes and are in compliance with local, tax reporting obligations. Also responsible for analysing the current tax liabilities owed by the organization and filing the appropriate paperwork with the Kenya revenue authority with a primary goal of ensuring that the organization pays the correct amount of taxes.
He/she will utilize excellent time management skills to ensure that all periodical returns are filed timely. One will also be responsible for ensuring accurate taxation, reporting, and tax remittances for a company’s staff payrolls.
The tax analyst role also involves managing the relationship between the company and the relevant tax authorities to ensure appropriate handling of all tax obligations, and the timely resolution of various notifications.
OTHER DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES;
• Review all invoices, payment vouchers, transactions, other relevant documents/ contracts on regular basis to ensure that all taxes (paye, wht, whvat, premium tax, training levy, itax etc) have been deducted properly and total tax payable to tax authorities is accurate.
• Ensure that all tax returns are filed in a timely manner. Verify account balances by performing reconciliations on tax general ledger accounts.
• Responsible for ensuring proper taxation of all employees (including expatriate staff).
• Ensure that we are in compliance with all tax related obligations all the time.
• Ensure accurate corporate tax computation on annual basis as per applicable tax provisions and file the tax returns in a timely manner.
• Liaise with tax agencies and draft replies, in case any tax related inquiries / notifications are issued by KRA / other tax agencies, for timely resolution.
• Handle tax audits / assessment procedures being conducted by KRA/other tax agencies by preparing all required details required by KRA/other tax agencies in a timely manner.
• Regularly perform audits on the system to ensure data integrity; responsible for coordinating with it team to find a resolution of discrepancies that might adversely impact on the company’s tax returns.
• Responsible for gathering the information required for all tax compliance including transfer pricing, and provide support with the required year-end provisions.
• Ensure the organization is current with changing tax procedures and new implementations.
• Conduct necessary training sessions on tax issues to the concerned staff.
