Job Description/Requirements

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a dynamic AgriculturalSystems Scientist to develop and implement a toolbox for the implementation ofAdd-on activities, KPI assessment and MELIA activities within the Use Casesassociated with The Excellence in Agronomy (EiA) Initiative.

About the Initiative: Aspart of its 2030 Research and Innovation Strategy, CGIAR has launched theglobal

Excellencein Agronomy Initiative (EiA) to deliver agronomicgain for millions of smallholder farming households in prioritized farmingsystems, with emphasis on women and young farmers for measurable impact on foodand nutrition security, income, water use, soil health and climate resilience.

The scaling model of EiA is organizedaround demand-driven Use Cases, operating in a defined target area, andfocusing on the development, validation, and scaling of an agronomic solution,formulated through a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The MVPs are expected todeliver agronomic gain for smallholder farmers in relation to (i) increasedyield, profitability, and/or yield quality, (ii) climate change adaptation andreduced risk, (iii) increased resource use efficiencies, and (iv) improved soilhealth. These indicators are referred to as the ‘agronomic gain key performanceindicators’ (KPIs), prioritized by EiA. 

EiA has established teams of experts tosupport Use Case teams during the design, development, validation, and pilotingof their MVPs, for analysing and considering various systems-related areas ofinterest, referred to as ‘Add-onactivities to the Use Cases’. In addition, a KPI team has been put in place toensure integration of KPI assessment in the Use Cases and Add-on activities, aswell as a Monitoring & Evaluation, Learning and Impact assessment (MELIA)team which is collaborating with other teams to implement MELIA activitieswithin the Use Cases. 

The position: The selected candidate will work closely withAdd-on, KPI, MELIA and Use Case teams and he/she will be based in a country inEast Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Facilitateregular interactions between Add-on, KPI, MELIA and Use Case teams for theintegration of Add-on activities, KPI assessment and MELIA activities withinUse Cases.
·Coordinatethe development and implementation of an Add-on toolbox that is digitallyaccessible to Use Case teams, EiA partners and beyond.
·Organizecapacity building activities for Use Case teams, focused on data collection,data analysis and learning for MVP design and scaling, to enable theimplementation of Add-on activities. 
·Conductdata analysis to extract learnings on farming systems dynamics and characteristicsof farmer communities to inform Use Case strategies. 
·Facilitatecollaboration between Add-on/KPI teams and EiA data analysis support functions.

Requirements

·Minimumof 5 years of working experience within a multi-disciplinary research context. 

·Advancedskills and demonstrated experience in quantitative and/or qualitative dataanalysis. 

·Experiencewith the collection and management of large-scale survey data. 

·Experiencewith Monitoring & Evaluation, Learning and Impact assessment. 

Skills:

·Strongorganizational/management skills in large-scale research or developmentprojects. 

·Demonstratedgood technical report writing skills.

·Excellentwritten and spoken communication skills in English.

Education level

·PhD in AgriculturalEconomics, Agricultural Sciences, Sociology or related field.
