Summit Recruitment and Search Africa is a leading Recruitment and Executive Search agency head quartered in Kenya providing outstanding talent to a wide range of companies and NGOs in various business sectors across Africa.

Our client a cattle ranch in the rural areas of Nanyuki, Kenya is seeking to hire a Cattle Production Manager to oversee the daily operations of the cattle management activities. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the welfare of the livestock, maintaining high productivity levels, and fostering a collaborative working environment. The ideal candidate has a diploma or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science or related field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in hands on cattle management.

Key Responsibilities

Implement and supervise daily husbandry practices for 500-1000 head of beef cattle. Ensure the health, nutrition, and welfare of the livestock through proactive management strategies. Oversee breeding programs, vaccinations, and disease prevention measures. Manage veterinary issues promptly and effectively, in collaboration with local veterinarians. Lead a team of approximately 10 employees, including herders and support staff. Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure optimal performance and productivity. Foster a positive work culture based on collaboration, respect, and continuous improvement. Develop and implement operational plans to optimize cattle production and grazing management. Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements related to livestock management. Assist in marketing activities, including the procurement of cattle from the market as well as building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, buyers, and other stakeholders in the industry.

Qualifications

A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science or related field. Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in hands-on cattle management. Must be able to work in a rural area. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of veterinary practices and experience in managing veterinary issues in Kenya.
