Position Description:
Horticulture Agronomist
•Must have minimum 5 years experience in commercial horticulture agronomy, preferably with fresh fruit and vegetable production experience. Cucurbits and Solanacae type crop knowledge preferred.
•Must be able to work independently in adherence to corporate objectives.
•Must be fully computer literate on Microsoft Word and Excel as well as email
Job Description
Overall responsibility for all field activities relating to the commercial production units for:
•Bananas – Currently 12.5Ha to be expanded to 60Ha in 2014 (Irrigated)
•Tomatoes –18Ha per annum from 2014 (Irrigated)
•Watermelons – 28ha per annum from 2014 (Irrigated)
•Maize – 40Ha per annum from 2014 (Irrigated)
•Pineapples – Currently 6Ha to be expanded to 60Ha by 2016 (dryland)
•Will be required to plan and oversee all daily and weekly programs in accordance with the annual planting program, guiding the field teams to ensure company standard agronomic practices are maintained
•Will be required to ensure that budgeted production targets are being met in terms of both quality and quantity of produce
•Will be required to monitor all crop monitoring, scouting, spraying, fertilizing and harvesting programs at field level
•Will be required to work with Horticultural Agronomist on all planning and forecasting
