About Us
We are a faith-based charitable organization supporting communities in the informal settlements of Mukuru, South B, Nairobi. MPC was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1985 in response to the community challenges in the Mukuru Informal Settlements. It is situated at the heart of the Industrial Area, along the New Likoni Road just 1 km off Mombasa Road and borders the Mukuru Kayaba Informal Settlement.
MPC endeavors to empower the Mukuru community through education, health, welfare and social rehabilitation services.
About the Clinic
We provide outpatient services such as pediatric services, ANC services, PNC services, medical laboratory diagnostics, medical consultation, minor surgeries, pharmacy, VCT and a nutrition center for the malnourished children and adults to approximately 100 patients per day.
Qualifications and Experience
Requirements. Higher Diploma in clinical medical and Surgery specialized in pediatrics with at least minimum of 3-years´ experience in pediatrics. Must be registered by the Clinical Officers Council in Kenya.
Key duties
- Diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury
- Ordering and interpreting medical tests
- Performing routine medical and surgical procedures
- Patient care and management
- Planning and conducting community health activities
- Training/capacity building/supervising students attached to the health facility
- Training of community health workers
- Determining the health care needs of the community being served in order to enhance service delivery.
- Pioneer in the delivery of quality health education to the clients
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Fluent English, able to use Microsoft Office tools to write reports and keep records of activity
2. Willing and able to work in a mixed Kenyan-foreign management medical service, meaning working together with foreign health pediatric specialists deployed at MIC, sharing work
3. Prepared to take the task of delivering monthly reports by email, additional to the applicable local reporting standards, and to communicate weekly by video call or teams meeting to update on clinic´s business
4. Able and willing to use social media (phone, video call, WhatsApp) to carryout telemedicine (cross consultation with specialists)
5. Technical and Operational Responsibilities Conduct patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations and diagnostic tests among others.
6. Take patients notes, examine, and document all findings both for legal reference and for the benefit of medical staff.
7. Liaise with other service providers to ensure efficient and effective management of patients.
8. Refer patients to the clinic, x-ray units, laboratory, external doctors, and other service providers in a timely manner as and when required.
9. Undertake continuous evaluation of patient s response to plan of care and modify as needed.
10. Carry out specific medical and surgical procedures.
11. Adhere to ethical and legal standards of practice at all times as is required of a healthcare professional.
12. Maintain confidentiality and impartiality in service provision.
13. Keep up to date with medical developments, new drugs, treatments and medications, including complementary medicine.
14. Provide Guidance, Counselling / advice services to clients on health matters.
15. Ensure working environment and waste disposal is according to the established
procedures. Advocate on behalf of patients and makes ethical decisions related to consent and confidentiality.
16. Adhere to clinic policies, procedures, guidelines and related legislations. Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
