FEMNET envisions an African society where gender equality is achieved and women and girls enjoy their rights and dignity while in its mission it seeks to facilitate and coordinate the sharing of experiences, ideas, information, and strategies for human rights promotion among African women’s organizations through networking, communication, capacity-building and advocacy at the regional and international levels.
Purpose and objective
Cognizant of the above challenges, FEMNET will be holding a security training meeting aimed at enhancing the understanding of risk, physical and cyber security exposure and development of security protocols; appraising FEMNET staff on deepening proactive approaches and strategies towards opposition efforts and strategizing an immediate reaction to opposition groups, whilst promoting in-depth conversations and feminist movement building within civil society and FEMNET membership to strengthen their expertise and knowledge to demand and reclaim their rights from duty bearers.
Training objectives
To identify the key components of physical security checklists To learn how to stay safe and sane in online advocacy spaces. To learn ways to keep our organization and the individuals who work there safe. To learn more about cyber bullying and other forms of digital insecurities including protecting against cyberbullying and other forms of digital insecurities To learn about the basics and powerful measures to enhance digital security and what aspects of our digital lives often goes ignored. To develop a vulnerabilities identification process To establish the needs for the creation and maintenance of mental health friendly workplace Strengthen digital SRHR activism using a variety of digital tools/ platforms.Expected outcomes.
The following are the expected outcomes because of the training:
Participants appraised on the emerging online security trends in relation to SRHR Opposition monitoring and mitigation. Participants appraised on their psychosocial wellbeing, digital security and understanding their security vulnerabilities. Participants’ consciousness around feminist digital activism heightened.Required Qualification, Skills and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Digital Media Studies or any other equivalent discipline. Minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training in the field of IT security monitoring and analysis, cyber threat analysis, incident management, vulnerability analysis, system administration, cloud technologies or similar cyber security related field and psychosocial wellbeing. A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a similar consultancy in a women’s rights/ feminist organization in Africa. Demonstrated experience in digital feminist activism, digital rights, and digital security. Proven experience and/or understanding of women’s human rights, feminism, policy advocacy, strategic communication, activism, and social justice in Africa.Other attributes
Strong communication and facilitation skills (oral, written and presentation skills); Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of the mandate and functions and/or experience in working with National Human Rights Institutions will be an added advantage.Duration of Assignment
The training will be delivered physically in Nairobi. The consultancy will run for 3 days – 1 day for preparation, 1 day for training and 1 day for report writing.Liaison, Coordination and Reporting
The consultant will work closely with FEMNET’s SRHR and EVAWG Officer.Terms of Service
This is a non-staff contract and therefore the consultant is not entitled to insurance, medical cover or any other status or conditions as FEMNET staff.
