Reports To: Regional Service Engineer

Gross Salary: ZMW 7,004 per month

Role Purpose

Talent Grid Africa, on behalf of a fast-growing solar energy company dedicated to powering underserved communities across Sub-Saharan Africa is hiring Field Service Engineers. The Field Service Engineers will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and uptime of the company's energy systems within an assigned cluster. The role focuses on troubleshooting, maintenance, monitoring, and technical support of solar charging hubs and battery packs to ensure uninterrupted service delivery. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining operational excellence by minimizing downtime, improving equipment performance, and supporting the deployment of new technologies across the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair defective battery packs and related equipment.

• Ensure defective packs remain below the acceptable threshold of 2%.

• Monitor hub performance metrics including Swap Percentage (Swap%) and PV Percentage

(PV%).

• Escalate hubs exceeding operational thresholds or experiencing recurring technical issues.

• Continuously monitor hub energy performance to prevent downtime and energy shortages.

• Conduct field visits to hubs requiring physical inspections, maintenance, repairs, or technical

support.

• Test new products, firmware, and system upgrades as required.

• Accurately document, track, and escalate technical issues through designated channels.

• Perform hub commissioning, testing, validation, and sign-off before operational launch.

• Provide daily technical updates to the Regional Service Engineer and Regional Coordinator.

• Submit weekly hub health and performance reports.

• Communicate technical risks, recurring issues, and required interventions promptly.

• Prepare monthly cluster technical performance reports using the DDD reporting structure.

• Maintain accurate records of troubleshooting activities and resolutions.

• Develop weekly field service and maintenance schedules.

• Plan hub visits based on operational priorities and technical requirements.

• Participate in weekly planning sessions with the Regional Coordinator.

• Identify support requirements and recommend corrective actions to improve system

performance.

• Maintain accurate records of hub equipment and technical inventory.

• Track defective components and support replacement planning.

• Participate in regional operational and technical meetings.

• Ensure proper management and accountability of tools and equipment.

• Record and maintain detailed logs of field activities.

• Support special technical projects and operational initiatives as assigned.

• Promote compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key Requirements

✓ Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Renewable Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering,

Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or any other related technical field.

✓ 0–2 years of experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, or repairing electronic, electrical,

solar, or energy systems.

✓ Experience working with field-based technical operations is an added advantage.

✓ Exposure to renewable energy systems or off-grid energy solutions will be highly desirable.

✓ Knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.

✓ Familiarity with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.

✓ Ability to interpret technical data and system performance metrics.

✓ Understanding of solar energy systems is an added advantage.

✓ Ability to work independently in remote locations.

✓ Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies.

✓ Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
