ABOUT THE COMPANY
GIZ, the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, provides services in the field of international technical cooperation worldwide. In Kenya, it has been active since 1964, and up to now implements programs in a wide variety of areas, including economic development, green energy and water, governance, food security, and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is GIZ’s main commissioning party. However, GIZ as well works closely with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.
JOB SUMMARY
Context:On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ implements a project Supporting the implementation of the Shirika Plan to strengthen the socio-economic integration of refugees and host communities in Kenya (SISI-RH) in Garissa and Turkana Counties. To that end, the project focuses on activities in employment promotion and business support, provides incentives on usage of clean energy, and provides advisory and capacity building services to partner governmental bodies. The intern shall support the implementation of activities in Kakuma.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Tasks & ResponsibilitiesThe intern will be carrying out following tasks and responsibilities:Supporting the implementation of the project objectives as part of a teamSupporting with logistic and coordination for different events and training activities implemented by the projectSupport the Team Leader and Technical Officers in administrative and finance related tasks and processesPreparation and participation in internal meetings and workshops and assisting with documenting these, e.g. by writing minutes, and photo-documentationPerforms other duties and tasks at the request of management. B. Learning ObjectivesDuring the 6 months period of internship, the candidate will acquire following skills and competencies:Enhance his/her knowledge of project management cycleAcquire experience in project administration and inner workings of international development agencyReceive an insight into operational planning and event managementImprove in drafting reports, articles and other written documentsDevelop a routine in using MS Office applications and MS TeamsStrengthened his / her presentation and facilitation skills C. Required qualifications, competences and experienceQualifications Diploma or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Business Administration, Project Management, etc.)Fluent English and Kiswahili language skills both verbal and in writingKnowledge of one another language used in Turkana West by either the host or refugee community will be an assetGood working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office Apps)At least 1 year of work or volunteer experience in a comparable position, with references Other knowledge, additional competencesStrong interest in project management and administrative career pathwaysEagerness to learn and gradually assume more responsibilityReliability, commitment to deadlines, and very good organizational skillsPro-active work ethics D. Duty StationThe intern will be based in Kakuma. The intern might be expected to take part in business trips within Turkana. E.
