The Ministry of Defense is at Ulinzi House off Lenana Road in Nairobi. The Ministry is headed by the Cabinet Secretary who is responsible to the President and Commander – in – Chief on matters of policy. The Cabinet Secretary is appointed by the President and chairs the Defense Council which is responsible for the overall control and direction of the Kenya Defense Forces. Chief of the Defense Forces (CDF) is the professional head of the three Kenya Defense Forces Services and the Principal Military Advisor to the Commander – in – Chief. He is also responsible for the control, direction and general superintendence of the Defense Forces. The Principal Secretary is the accounting and authorized officer on financial and administration matters of the Ministry of Defense . He/she is also personally accountable to Parliament for the expenditures of all public moneys provided for the Ministry of Defense . Commitment The Ministry of Defense is committed to defending and protecting the people of the Republic of Kenya and their property against external aggression and also in providing support to the Civil Authority as per the Law. Our Mandate To defend and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya; assist and cooperate with other authorities in situations of emergency and disaster; and upon approval of the National Assembly, may be deployed to restore peace in any part of Kenya affected by unrest or instability.

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

served for a minimum period of three years at the grade of Assistant Director of Medical Services/Medical Specialist, CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service; a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from a university recognized in Kenya; a Masters degree in the field of Paediatric from a university recognized in Kenya; a Certificate of Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board; a Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board; and demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results

Duties and Responsibilities

performing complex and advanced clinical patient management in area of specialization of internal medicine or other specialties recognized by the Board; coordinating training, coaching and mentoring of health personnel; managing health stores including essential medicines and/ or plant equipment; managing larger facilities/hospitals; developing intervention activities or programs for the management of diseases and conditions; developing Medical Standard Operating Procedures( SOPs) and protocols; developing training curricular and syllabi in collaboration with training institutions; coordinating emergency response and clinical care; coordinating health projects and programmes; managing health information systems; carrying out health surveys and research; and monitoring the provision of forensic and medico-legal services
