Pharmacist – 1 Post at Kakamega County

Job Description

Kakamega County is one of the 47 counties in the Republic of Kenya. It borders Vihiga County to the south, Siaya County to the West, Bungoma County to the North and Nandi County to the East. The county covers an area of .3 Km2 (Kakamega CDP, ). The altitude of the county is between 1, metres and 2, metres above sea level.

Duties and responsibilities 

Screening prescriptions for legal validity, drug contraindications, drug interactions, appropriateness of dose, frequency and duration of dosing and patience convenience; Preparing and dispensing medicines according to good dispensing practices and counseling patients on use of medicines; Making extemporaneous preparations; Participating in ward rounds; Identifying medicinal gaps and challenges; Maintaining a daily activity log book for recording all activities undertaken; Recommending over the counter (OTC) medicines to patients/clients with simple medical conditions and making necessary referrals; and Making entries into the relevant inventory management records and registers.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have

Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (B Pharm) from an institution recognized by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board; successfully completed one (l) year Internship from a recognized institution; Registration Certificate by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board; and Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution.

Basic Salary Scale: Kshs. 49,x 2, – 51, x 2, – 53, x 2, – 56, x 2, – 59, x 2, – 62, x 3, – 65, p.m
