PROGRAM: Program on Regenerative Agricultural Transformation (PRAT)

DUTY STATION: Vihiga, Siaya, Kisumu Counties – Kenya

SALARY: KES 85,000


Vibrant Village Foundation (VVF) is a 501(c)3 private foundation based in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. Founded in 2010, the Foundation provides direct assistance and grants in targeted communities in the areas of health and nutrition, clean water, agricultural development, education, the arts, and poverty reduction. The Foundation currently supports programs in 14 countries around the world. Our goal is to achieve measurable and long-term results to improve lives and strengthen communities.

The Foundation’s office in Kenya was established in 2013 and currently operates a community development program among rural communities in Vihiga, Kisumu and Siaya Counties, Kenya. 

Below is the job description for the Position of Program Coordinator for Program on Regenerative Agricultural Transformation (PRAT). The goal of the program is to improve food and income security by building the resilience of smallholder farmers in Western Kenya through enhancing the adoption of Regenerative Agriculture (RA) and mechanization technologies.


The position plays a critical role in the oversight and management of the field implementation of the following aspects of the program:

1. A value chain approach to adoption and scaling of CA/RA

2. Mechanization and digitalization of smallholder farming

3. Multi stakeholder partnerships for delivery of services along entire value chains

4. Linkages to markets for the produce of the farmers

5. Provision of access to financing and creation of the enabling environment

6. Facilitating Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning systems.

The holder of this position provides technical oversight and field management support to a team of field officers for the effective execution of all field activities. The holder of this position will be responsible for the coordination of program work within the counties assigned and reports to the Head of PRAT

Key areas of responsibilities are:

Project Management

● Oversight and management of all program implementation activities of PRAT

● Be responsible for the development of program implementation work plans in consultation with colleagues, the field officers and the PRAT HOD

● Break down and translate the program strategies into a language that is understandable by the key program stakeholders including the field officers and the farmers

● Be the key link between the program stakeholders in the field and VVF’s senior management

● Provide leadership in mobilization, recruitment, organization and strengthening of farmers and farmer producer groups

● Provide technical and administrative support needed for the provision of on-ground advisory extension services to farmers

● Promote & support commitment of farmers to soil health improvement

● Provide leadership and on the ground guidance in the setting up of RA/CA demonstrations and organizing field days, farmer exchange visits

● Facilitate development and signing of contract farming agreements between farmers and aggregators

● Provision of ground oversight, enforcement of contract farming and address emerging issues

● Provide findings/feedback to the farmers and other stakeholders

Field Team Leadership

● Supervision of the program field staff and ensure that all activities are executed in accordance to the work plans and other relevant program guidelines and protocols

● Field monitoring of the progress of the project and adoption of the technologies and provide feedback to all the key program actors and the other stakeholders within the area of jurisdiction

● Provide technical support to the post-harvest handling and marketing of local crop products

● Monitor and document the project progress, lessons, good experience and impact in collaboration with the farming communities and other program stakeholders

● Identify any challenges and obstacles to the achievement of the program vision and goals and trouble shoot in a timely manner

● Advice program teams on best practices to ensure quality outcomes for all crop production activities

● Participate in the writing of the program progress reports as may be required by VVF and other key program partners

Management of partner relationships

● Be the primary contact person for all the partners and stakeholders for all the program activities within the counites of program implementation

● Work with PRAT HOD to ensure relevant partnership documents are signed with all the relevant key program stakeholders in the county

● Ensure there is all round accountability between VVF-Kenya and all the key program stakeholders

● Ensure the recognition and participation of VVF-Kenya in all relevant stakeholder forums within the program area of operation

● Continually update the catalog of stakeholders and ensure any new stakeholder that may impact the program is appropriately engaged

Relevant Experience and Skills

● Bachelors degree Agriculture related field. Masters degree is preferred

● Minimum of three years’ experience gained in agricultural project implementation involving smallholder farmers in rural areas.

● In-depth understanding of Regenerative/Conservation Agriculture

● Project management experience is nonagricultural programs might be considered too

● Proven experience in project life cycle management. Experienced project manager

● Proven experience in field management and program progress reporting

● Attention to detail and ability to track activities, trouble shoot and proactively suggest relevant solutions

● Proven experience in working with multiple stakeholders in program implementation

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Understanding of Luhya/ Luo and sensitivity to local cultural norms

● Innovative, proactive, and problem-solving skills.

● Motorbike riding experience would be an added advantage.
