(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Long-term research by GCF and partners has clearly identified four distinct species of giraffe in Africa – Masai, Southern, Northern and Reticulated giraffe, with several subspecies. All four giraffe species and their subspecies live in geographically distinct areas throughout Africa and there are only a total of approx. , giraffe remaining in the wild. While some of these species have been reported to hybridise in zoos, there is very little evidence that this occurs readily in the wild. The four species concept is based on a long-term effort, spearheaded by GCF in collaboration with Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) in Germany and other partners, to unravel the mystery of giraffe genetics and taxonomy. GCF and partners have collected over 1, DNA samples from all major giraffe populations across Africa. These new findings will be invaluable in informing future giraffe conservation throughout Africa.

Key Requirements:

Dynamic and able to multitask effectively. Team player, with the ability to work remotely and independently with minimal supervision. Self-motivated and able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, including scientific and report writing in English. Computer-literate, with attention to detail and proficiency in GIS software packages. Wildlife field experience & valid driver’s license Kenyan citizen & ability to work in Kenya

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate giraffe surveys and field activities with GCF partners. Collect and collate data to achieve GCF’s overall mission. Develop giraffe conservation field program proposals with GCF partners. Prepare technical and financial reports on GCF field activities. Support the development of scientific and popular papers. Represent giraffe and their conservation needs through presentations and publications. Provide updates for GCF’s social media platforms. Flexibility and resourcefulness to support the GCF East Africa Coordinator with any necessary tasks.
