Job Summary
Purpose of the role The purpose of the job is to manage the Darwin funded ZSL project titled ““Ranger Empowerment: Strengthening Skills in Kenya's Conservation Areas” with the primary objective to enhance the knowledge and skillset of rangers working within National parks and Conservancies in Kenya by reviewing] existing ranger training curricula, currently provided by Kenya Wildlife Service Law Enforcement Academy (KWS LEA) and Wildlife Research & Training Institute (WRTI). The project seeks to review, revise and expand the ranger training curriculum and enhance rangers' skills and capabilities. Critical areas that are presently absent, include Code of Conduct (CoC) training, trust building with communities, de-escalation techniques, Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) management, and other relevant modules. This post is office based in Nairobi, Kenya, however there is a requirement to travel frequently to field sites in Kenya. The work will include periods in field conditions.

Key Responsibilities
• Providing technical oversight and input into all project activities, supporting programme personnel and partners to ensure appropriate actions are taken, on time and on budget.
• Coordinating all key stakeholders in the grant to come together to review and develop the ranger curriculum and steer the trainings as needed. The post holder will have to organise multiple meetings and will require coordination to ensure input from everyone in a timely manner.
• The post holder is responsible for ensuring that the programme is appropriately staffed and for the recruitment, safe working, direct or indirect line management and support of the programme team.
• Working closely with and managing relationships with partners, sub-grantees and consultants to source key skillsets relevant to the project, coordinate their input and expertise within the programme, ensure their contributions to programme activities are appropriate, of a high standard, delivered and reported on in a collaborative, timely manner, whilst complying with ZSL’s financial and ethical standards.
• The post holder will ensure the technical and scientific rigour of all project activities, contributing to methodologies, implementation, analysis, technical reports and, where appropriate scientific outputs (e.g., survey results), and ensuring that a Monitoring and Evaluation plan is in place and being followed.
• The post holder will be responsible for reporting on the programme both internally to the Country Manager and the Darwin Managing Committee comprising of key partners and externally through donor reports and contributions to newsletters, annual reports etc.
• The post holder will represent ZSL at national and international conferences and workshops as needed and will be expected to deliver talks and presentations to a range of audiences.

• The post holder is expected to nurture and maintain good working relationships using tact, sensitivity and diplomacy as appropriate.

• Communicate and liaise with senior officials from institutions to communicate the aims and achievements of the programme and ZSL in a professional and engaging fashion to foster collaborations opportunities for communicating results.
