Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Officer will support the management of quality initiative across all AHN’s Dialysis Units in Kenya. This role will partner with the Clinical Operations team to set quality standards, conduct audit sessions and formulate quality management tools that align with the goals and objectives of the Clinical Department and the organization.

Job Description/Requirements

Scope of The Role:

• Development of Quality Management tools


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Country Auditing

• Develop the calendar for major audits for approval by the clinical team and conduct audits based on the calendar (biannually in each center)

• Coordinate audit logistics and prepare requisite audit reports for management

• Provide feedback to center level and corporate staff on the outcomes of each audit exercise

• Manage and continuously update the action items tracker

• Identify key issue areas across the centers and follow up with the clinical team to ensure they are addressed

• Assess audit tool for evidence-based changes, and propose any new tools as audit needs change

• Continuous audit checks and standards adherence implementation

• Audit report outcome implementation

• Conduct Audits of newly completed Centres, Operations Set -Up and Clinical Staging.

• Develop and enforce the minor audits calendar and communicate to the rest of the clinical teams

• Train staff on conducting minor audits and follow up to ensure that this is done effectively

• Liaise with center level nurses to conduct audits across all the centers

• Assist the nursing and clinical teams in report writing

• Provide minor audits feedback to corporate as well as center teams as appropriate

• Manage and continuously update the action items tracker

• Identify key issue areas around minor audits and work with the clinical team to address them

• Coordinate mortalities analysis, including mortalities classification as well as coordinating the improvement actions from mortality reviews in collaboration with assigned clinicians.


Infection Prevention and Control Audit

• Coordinate & lead clinical protocols/pathways, Major and Minor audits, including feedback &

close out of identified gaps with the affected teams.

• Audit of Infections rates in the Dialysis Unit


• Audit on adherence to handwashing bundles

• Audit of adherence to Catheter site care bundles 


General Inventory Usage:

• Manage the inventory usage review process with center level teams - including reviewing the inventory usage tracker, scheduling center level meetings, and writing corporate facing reports


 Crash Cart Inventory Usage:

• Managing inventory review process for crash carts.

• Ensure detailed Code Blue analysis and Crash cart Management, whilst making sure the documented improvements actions are undertaken in line with the findings.


Quality Management:

• Partner with Senior Management including Country Medical Director, Regional Operations Directors, and Director Training to develop and implement new Quality Management tools and initiatives as needed.

• Oversee clinical Quality protocols development and implementation

• Clinical competency continuous assessment

• Oversee quality of proactive and reactive reporting systems

• Center SOP protocols and process adherence.

• Oversee Quality in the clinical outputs and Emergency Care from within dialysis units impacting patient care

• Oversee Quality of operations and audits

• Prepare schedule for travel

• Work closely with the CMD in the development & revision of clinical policies, procedures & guidelines required for patient care and safety.

• Facilitation of root cause analysis processes & close out for those issues related to clinical care by healthcare teams, with support & guidance from the CMD’s office where applicable.

• Regulatory and accreditation – Participate in Accreditation interventions across the all AHN dialysis centres in Kenya, and act as the Survey coordinator.

• Ensure all clinical related committees carryout their planned regular meetings, as well as following through so that the required deliverables are achieved.

• Coordinate clinical CMEs, morbidity and mortality meetings for clinicians.

• Facilitate clinical departmental meetings in collaboration with the respective clinical heads, whilst ensuring quality matters are discussed & addressed in these forums.

• Responsible for providing one on one clinician support on quality related matters affecting patient care & compliance.


Other duties:

• Monitoring and Evaluation. Will be responsible for developing the clinical monitoring and audit tools as well as participating in the monitoring and evaluation of the quality improvement initiatives in the centers.

• Coaching, Mentoring and Training. Mentor and develop teams on quality improvement in assigned departments, whilst developing training items and participating in regular quality improvement trainings.

• Research and Innovation. Participate in quality improvement research to ensure the organization keeps improving in line with best practice and evidence based practices. Will be required to regularly innovate or recommend innovative solutions which will solve quality and patient safety challenges across all centres.

• Risk Management. Participate in risk management activities and implement an effective risk management program across all dialysis centres. Participate in risk management activities.

• Assist with following up on ESG findings at centre level and reporting on the progress of closure of ESG findings. i.e. PPE issuance and use (by AHN staff at centres), Chemical safety practices in the storage rooms, Food Safety practices in the kitchen, Water Quality Monitoring/Recording (for the RO systems), Waste Management at the centres, etc.

Desired Competencies:

• Diploma or degree as a Clinical Officer or Nurse plus requisite registration in Kenya.

• Basic Certification in Healthcare Quality is an added advantage.

• At least 2 Years relevant experience in a hospital setting.

• Audit experience is a plus

• Must be a computer literate.

• Should also possess/demonstrate the below competencies:

• Able to build and maintain effective working relationships

• Passionate about bringing quality care to units

• Willing to travel approx. 50% to 75% of the time
