Job Description
In the Vi magazine (Tidningen Vi), published by the Swedish Cooperative Union (KF), initiated fund raising for a tree planting project in the Lake Victoria Region. Subsequently the Foundation “Vi Planterar träd” (Vi Agroforestry) was established to raise funds for the project. Vi Agroforestry is an international non-political, non religious and non profit organisation registered in Swedan as a foundation and in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda as a non-governmental organisation. Its headquarters are situated in Stockholm, Sweden, with a Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya. Vi Agroforestry started up in West Pokot District, Kenya in . The original aim was to halt desertification and soil erosion by planting trees. As more funds became available Vi Agroforestry expanded and in a new project site was established in Trans Nzoia District, with a new project office in Kitale, Kenya. Further programme expansions led to projects established in Masaka, Uganda in , Musoma, Tanzania in , Mwanza, Tanzania in , Kisumu, Kenya , Kigali, Rwanda in and Kagera, Tanzania in . In , the project office in Kagera, Tanzania was closed down. Today, Vi Agroforestry has country offices in Kitale (Kenya), Masaka (Uganda), Kigali (Rwanda) and Musoma (Tanzania). Vi Agrofoerestry also has a project office in Kisumu (Kenya). Vi Agroforestry today also work in a rural development programme in Malawi and take the role as advisor in partnership with We Effect and other organisations.
Deliverables
The consultant is expected to deliver the following:
Assessment report of Vi Agroforestry’s current project management practices with areas of improvement towards result-based project management identified. A report on the customized result-based project management training. A proposal on how Vi Agroforestry can improve on the planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (PMERL) framework. Guide lines proposal on how to effectively manage risks – project risks, stakeholders, and resources (including financial). Guidelines proposal on effective spot checks routines including at implementing partners level to ensure compliance of conditions. A final report summarizing the consultant’s findings, recommendations, and key outcomes of the engagement.Timeline
The consultant deliverables are expected to be finalised in not more than a period of 3 months, consisting of 20- 25 working days, with the following milestones:
Milestone 1
Assess Vi Agroforestry’s existing project management practices and develop a customized training program. Engagement with Vi Agroforestry during the assessment of current practices and design of the customized training.
Milestone 2
Deliver the training program to Vi Agroforestry’s staff. During the training, engage staff on considerations to factor in development guidelines (4 and 5 above) and design of the PMERL (3 above) framework proposal.
Milestone 3
Deliver a PMERL framework proposal, guidelines (deliverables 4 and 5) and final report.
Qualifications
The consultant should have the following qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise in result-based project management; and Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (PMERL) in non-profit sector. Education: Post graduate degree in relevant field such as statistics, economics, social sciences, or development studies. Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for development programs, preferably in the non-profit sector. The cconsultant should also have experience in training and capacity building of M&E staff and program officers. Knowledge: The candidate should have a solid understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts, tools, and methodologies. They should also be up to date with current trends and best practices in M&E in the non-profit sector. Communication Skills: The candidate should have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and able to convey complex technical information to a non-technical audience. They should also have strong facilitation skills to lead workshops, training sessions, and other capacity-building activities.Important Safety Tips
