Job Description/Requirements

1. Implements, enforces and communicates the Kenya-based accounting policies, practices, and procedures, including but not limited to the integration of organization-wide accounting and reporting standards consistent with applicable requirements and the utilization of appropriate tools and software.

2. Accurate vetting and processing of invoices (Uploading of payments to the online banking system).

3. Takes a primary responsibility in asset management including, but not limited to, stock-taking, valuation, insurance, reporting, and disposal in line with policy and in consultation with heads of department and the Global operations and finance team.

4. Prepares reports on the management of all expense disbursements consistent with policies, organizational objectives, and mission.

5. Supports the management and monitoring of the annual budget; prepares and reviews monthly budget variance reports in consultation with applicable Department Head(s) and Manager, Finance & Compliance (Kenya).

6. Manages monthly requisition process in collaboration with Department Heads and Manager, Finance & Compliance (Kenya).

7. Oversees and audits vendor invoices and payments to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures. Interacts with vendors to resolve payment issues.

8. Responsible for sourcing and liaising with certified accountants, consultants, and/or other qualified professionals, as required, to ensure organizational compliance with reporting and auditing obligations.

9. Reviews & audits all Kenya-based bank accounts by maintaining up-to-date reconciliations and reports.

10. Designs, prepares and delivers financial spreadsheets, annual reports, project-by-project expense analyses, and other requested reports.

11. Carries out all duties within the scope of authority and in a manner consistent with organizational guidelines.

12. Works with the Programs Team, Department Heads, and Boston Office to complete special projects.


Academic and Professional Qualifications

● Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required

● Accounting professional qualification (CPA/ACCA/ACA/CIMA) required

● 5+ years of increasingly complex accounting experience, preferably at an NGO or education institution.

● Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills necessary for effective management in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

● High knowledge of complex accounting principles and bookkeeping procedures.

● Exceptional analytical skills to correctly forecast, comprehend, and communicate data.

●Organizational skills needed to manage time, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.

●Knowledge and proficiency in computer applications, including Quickbooks; ability to

create and utilize complex mathematical formulas in spreadsheets.

● Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) in English and Swahili.

● Well-developed and mature professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with vendors, government officials, donors, partners, and colleagues at all organizational levels.

● Ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus and a growth mindset.

● Ability to think critically and manage change in support of strategic growth.

● Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.

● Ability to review the work of others and provide feedback to ensure compliance and accuracy.

● Ability to respond quickly and maintain composure during situations that impact the safety of children.

● Ability to exercise judgment and discretion when making independent decisions within the scope of authority.
