General Function
The Weld Process Engineer is responsible for leading, developing, and continuously improving welding and leak test operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role provides technical leadership and hands-on support for welding personnel, equipment, processes, and standards, while partnering with Production, Quality, and Management to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day technical direction, training, and motivation to welding personnel in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping, tooling, and company policies.
  • Train associates on proper welding and leak test operations, troubleshooting techniques, and preventive maintenance (PM) activities.
  • Support management in the development, implementation, and training of standardized rework processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all welding and manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, and Company standards.
  • Maintain and control Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and leak test parameters.
  • Lead investigations into quality concerns, scrap, rework, and production inefficiencies; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist in ensuring all welding and leak test equipment meets functional and safety requirements.
  • Lead manufacturing engineering activities for the launch of new products and the transition or takeover of existing weld and leak test operations.
  • Program, adjust, and optimize robotic MIG welders, resistance welders, manual welding operations, and leak test systems.
  • Troubleshoot welding equipment, leak testers, weld fixtures, and related tooling to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
  • Design, detail, and support the building of weld fixtures and tooling to meet product and process requirements.
  • Monitor production output, quality performance, and efficiency metrics; recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to ensure continuous improvement initiatives are realized and sustained.
  • Implement continuous improvement projects using structured problem-solving and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Operate within production schedules while balancing engineering priorities and floor support.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives and special projects as assigned by Upper Management.
  • Be available to support training, launches, or operational needs across shifts as required.

Required Experience And Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing engineering role.
  • 5+ years of experience welding, programming and troubleshooting equipment.
  • 3+ years of experience in welding/manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with robotic, resistance welding, and leak test processes is strongly preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing plant environment with fluctuating temperatures, noise, and exposure to industrial equipment.
  • Standing and walking up to 50% of work time.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, lift a minimum of 25 lbs. and operate various maintenance related equipment.
  • Floor engagement up to 80% of work time.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong technical knowledge of robotic welding programming, including point adjustments and parameter optimization.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to train and present technical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
