We are an intergovernmental organisation funded by governmental aid agencies, UN organisations and private foundations to carry out research and training in environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improving health and agricultural productivity in the tropics.
We have 400 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes located at various sites in Kenya and Ethiopia.
We seek to recruit a Laboratory Technician for the Martin Lüscher Emerging Infectious Diseases (ML-EID) Laboratory.
The work will involve overseeing the molecular aspects of work within the laboratory, maintaining advanced equipment and inventory logs, and assisting students and staff with research projects.
The position is tenable in Nairobi, Kenya at the Duduville campus.
This is a local (national) position that offers a one-year contract that is renewable, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.

Key Responsibilities
•Facilitate operation of automated nucleic acid extractions, and various molecular procedures within the ML-EID laboratory.
•Assist in keeping sample and supply inventories.
•Assist students and staff within the ML-EID in their research efforts.
•Make sure good laboratory practices are followed by others in the laboratory.
•Knowledge required for performing the job
•Experience with general molecular biology procedures, including extraction, reverse transcription and PCR.
•Experience in working with high biosafety standards, protocols and SOPs.
•Familiarity with cell culture and serological techniques.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
•Experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:
•Experience in automated nucleic acid extraction on a MagNA Pure 96.
•Experience in maintaining sample and supply inventories and records.
Requirements / Qualifications
•BSc degree in biological sciences.
•At least 1 years’ working experience in an infectious diseases biosafety laboratory.
Disposition
The candidate must also possess the following attributes:
•Good communication and interpersonal skills that establishes a good working relationship with customers.
•Ability to multi-task in dealing with several different issues at a time.
•Ability to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on pending matters under minimum supervision.
•Reporting: This position reports to the ML-EID Laboratory Manager.
•The selected candidate should be available to start as soon as possible.
